I was about to call it a day and was just talking to the locals that's passing along the road where I setup my gear when this bird suddenly perched on an open branch just in front of me and just above the shadow cast of the setting sun. Time stamp in the exif data was 17:21:11. Philippine Hawk-Eagle - Male on top ( Nisaetus philippensis). April 25, 2015, Antipolo City, Rizal 5DM3 + 600 f4 + 2x Kenko TC, f4.5(9), 1/500 sec., ISO 1600, natural golden light

Another awesome shot, Tonji! are these medenilla fruits? When I first went to Negros these birds were molting and didn't get a good shot, hope to visit that place again soon.

Wow, great shots as always, Ka Mastah! I still feel the goosebumps when we were shooting the purple needletails in Bataan, whenever I see photos of swifts or swallows in flight.

Wooooow! its a "is that your reflection in the eye" shot, Plain Idol Tina! Love the slight movement on the bill signifying that the bird is eating. missed this bird when I was there last.

I was lucky to have seen this bird before it was killed. Stayed well away from the eagles so that I could observe their natural behavior and they won't get stressed, they have very good eye sight and hearing that any movement inside their comfort zone will make them wry and defensive. Taken from around 100m or so. Great Philippine Eagle ( Pithecophaga jefferyi) - Davao City, April 3, 2014 5DM3 + 600 f4 IS + 2x Kenko TC, 1/1250 sec, f4(8), ISO 800, Tripod-Gimbal support, natural light.

Here's the head crop, needed to do some NR to tone down the noise that was magnified due to the small crop.

Thanks Tina, Tateo, Ka Mastah and Bobby. Ka Mastah, not full frame I was shooting in landscape and didn't realize I could loosen the screw on the lens and quickly turn it on portrait, only thought of it when I was reviewing my shots. Come to think of it, it would have been an automatic response a year ago to get the whole bird in the frame. Would try the head crop :-).

While waiting for the Sooty this bird landed on a nearby tree, it was so near that I needed to get out of my tree hide and set my gear in the middle of the busy road. I snapped a few quick bursts thinking that if I stayed longer a car would pass and the driver will get angry at me so I decided to cross to the other side of the road but unfortunately the bird got spooked when I was doing it. Luzon Flameback (Chrysocolaptes haematribon) Subic, February 20, 2015 5DM3 + 600 f4 IS + 2x Kenko TC, f4.5(9), 1/640 sec, ISO 3200, Tripod-Gimbal support, natural light.

After shooting the GFPF in Bataan we decided to spend the night in Subic then spend the morning birding before going to Candaba in the afternoon. Finally, after trying to get a good photo of the Sooty all these years I finally got lucky.
