Went night birding with Robert Hutchinson, Irene Dy, and Woodpeckers of the World author, Gerard Gorman, looking for owls in Subic. We didn't find any owls that night but found this beauty perched on a pole. It would fly out every few minutes to catch insects, then come back to the same perch. This was my first lifer for 2015. Great-eared Nightjar (Eurostopodus macrotis) Subic Bay January 13, 2015 Equipment used: 5DMK3, 600mm f/4, 1.4xtc3, Tripod, Remote trigger, LED torch for lighting. iso6400, 600mm, 1.4xtc, f/5.6, 1/8sec, manual exposure, live view, remote trigger

Beautiful shot Mike! The head of this bird is very similar to that of a cat from that angle :-)

If I may, I will visit you in Subic one day to see this sight. I have never seen this bird perched. So cool.
