It's over a week now that I've been observing these small jet-like birds hawking insects over my mother's backyard at Bacnotan, La Union. They can be seen from about 9 am all the way to nearly 5 pm, feeding non-stop from the insects attracted by blooming mango trees.
House Swift (Apus affinis,resident)
Habitat - Lowlands often associated with water, particularly rivers.
Shooting info - Baroro, Bacnotan, La Union, Philippines, March 8, 2015, 1D MIV + 500 f4 L IS + 1.4x TC II, 700 mm, f/6.3, ISO 640, 1/2000 sec, manual exposure in available light, 475B/516 support, major crop.
And some photo-documentation of the bird's underparts whose detail is tough to see in the wild.

In the first photo, I cannot help but notice that the head of the swift looks so much like that of a bulldog with fangs :-D
Very nice Romy !!! I would be really happy with photos like these, any of them :-)

Lol.... thanks, Tina! I'd like to disclose that the flowering of the mango trees in my mother's backyard is not artificially-induced.

Great shots Romy. It is not easy to expose the underside of a swift!
Do you have shots of the back? This looks quite different from the House Swifts I saw in Banaue.

Thanks, Ixi, Tina and Tonji! Great shots Romy. It is not easy to expose the underside of a swift! Do you have shots of the back? This looks quite different from the House Swifts I saw in Banaue.
I searched my shots for one having a view of the back, and here's the only one I got:
Shooting info - Baroro, Bacnotan, La Union, Philippines, March 8, 2015, 1D MIV + 500 f4 L IS + 1.4x TC II, 700 mm, f/6.3, ISO 640, 1/2000 sec, manual exposure in available light, 475B/516 support, 100% crop.
And here's an interesting individual. I noticed the all-white head in the viewfinder, too bad that I missed the focus. I didn't delete the image because of the odd head color.

WHOAAAA it's the first time I have seen a swift with a white head !!!!
And that 100% crop is awesome !!! It's still sharp after that big a crop. What a dream :-)

OMG, that crop is almost impossible! I can still see details in the image even at that magnification, and it's still sharp! That's almost magic Ka Romy!!!

Wow! Still so much details after the crop! I would normally delete a photo that far. Awesome Romy!

Wow, great shots as always, Ka Mastah! I still feel the goosebumps when we were shooting the purple needletails in Bataan, whenever I see photos of swifts or swallows in flight.

Thanks, partner..... yes, I fondly remember the Bataan BIF party, when TeLyds also became a member of the needletail club!
