Carmela Balcazar and I took a trip to the John Perrine Farms in Manolo Fortich for possible environmental conservation projects + bird and butterfly watching. Neon was supposed to go but he opted for freezing Mt. Pulag over the beautiful cool weather of Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon. Neil Konrad with the longer lens, will post the other nice birds in the area. We will definitely go back again. The accomodation is great and will be available for birdwatchers this summer. Please coordinate with Neil. Grey streaked flycatcher- Muscicapa griseisticta Blue throated beeeaters Copper Smith Barbet Long Tailed Shrike with a missing tail Mangrove Blue Flycatcher With our host: Thank you Neil Konrad for bringing us to the JP Farm. Bk Valley's birds have become visibly alive when you became resident, Ramon. A couple of years back, same month, Rey and I were able to see these mixed flocks of birds. LWE, nuthatches, assorted flycatchers, warblers, trushes... in one fruiting balete tree opposite the sampinit garden but no colasisis. Your photo of the pair is just right for the season. Happy Valentines! lyd

Tito Poch, you made me miss BK Valley so much. It is truly a bird paradise. Those frames are hard to come by. So you are using the 7D, ha, ha... they better watch out! You have good eyes. lyd

I was trying to choose which one I like best, at the end of the scroll, I like all. I always covet your great photos! I have not been back to Makiling in ages. The gas and toll take their toll. If I am guaranteed that there are butterflies, I will go! Makiling has become unpredictable even with birds. To live within the forest is a great privilege. I should visit soon. I don't think I can wait for the April showers. Cheerps, lyd >;<

It was good to meet Ivan in BALARA after not seeing him for a long time. This is very sad news. Just late this afternoon, I mentioned to Tonji that the President of the MSU University is a friend and is willing to arrange with the Univ. branches in Tawitawi or Jolo for birdwatching. Tonji replied saying that in those places, he will never bird with Robert B. or Christian P. else his tongue gets cut off by kidnappers. Upon reaching home, there is this news. My... what a premonition. I pray that Ivan and his companions will not be hurt and will be released safely and soon. Lord, bring him home safely! In Jesus mighty name we pray. Amen!

He, he, I wanted to touch the screen to feel the feathers but I was afraid it would fly out and bang into my jalousies. Have a safe trip, Neon. telyd

Thanks Ramon. Before leaving the campus that day we were together, I opted to exit via NIGS instead of Balara and I saw this guy standing on the grass where we were picking up seeds. I immediately parked the car close to the tree because I knew it would perch, and it did and so close! I did not have to leave my car. I just held my camera on top of my half opened window. I think I have more than a hundred shots. The bird was preening. lyd

Wow, what a fulfilling vacation in your wife's hometown. Lovely pair. I am biased towards the female... the color is subdued but beautiful as well. It has a gentler color. The color of the male is just too loud for me... mayabang! (like some bird photographers...ho, ho, ho... joke, joke). lyd

If the birds ignore the cats. we will be in trouble! This type of cats. are widespread, I'd say the most common, and if the population is not checked, it will finish up its host plant - well they become pests! Great shot idol-Mark. Next time, look around for the butterfly. I have heard from Ricky de Castro of Team Energy that on certain season of the year, there are thousands and thousands of Eurema butterflies (yellow ones) in a baranggay in Alfonso Cavite, spectacular sight but a lot casualties, too. :Dtelyd

A Red bellied pitta. Time for another exhibit, Tonj and Syl. These beautiful birds will raise the level of awareness and people will get to know what and why they need to protect our natural treasures. Random out some with stories to tell. If you'll excuse me, I need to go to my garden to check if there is a weird occurence amongst my OBS lyd

It's more fun where the water rocks! Those are fantastic shots, Tonj. I can hear the water splash. It's like I am there watching the scene not minding the spray of water. telyd

Congratulations, Ramon. The CFB is a beautiful catch. I wonder how the bird call sounds. And, oh my, they are probably feeding on the Polyura butterfly cats on the Caliandra. Plant more of those. Great plant to have in your garden, it feeds the larvae and the excess larvae is food to the the birds. The foliage is food to the soil, it's a legume. And lots of insects feed on the compost... great cycle of life, wonderful design by a wise Creator! Have to visit BK soon. lyd
