Wow! what an awesome shot, Sylvia! I really wanted to go back there because there is a lot to be expected from the fruiting fig trees along the way. No brown headed? I didn't spend much time on this figs as I went for my target bird. I was hoping to see the olive-backed flowerpecker that Romy got before on this road but that would be for another sortie. :-) I'm hoping that some other eye level fig tree would be fruiting on this trail when I try again.

The most numerous species found along the Bongabon-Baler road is the Philippine bulbul, there were plenty of fruiting fig trees along the way and its dominated by the PBB. 5DM3 + 600 f4 IS + 2x Kenko TC, Tripod-Gimbal support, click photo for exif data

Wow, another great addition to your growing BK bird list, wish I could jump my jail sentence and go up the mountain right now! It is not only a lifer for you but the first photo of this species posted in this forum. Congratulations on this historic capture, Ramon!

Thanks again, my friends! for the generous comments! Its been a difficult sortie but its all worth it. If only I could stay in that place, for several days and not drive for several hours to get there, I think this place has more surprises.

Finally after several years of looking for this bird found a place where there were lots. The only problem was this bird is always foraging inside the forest and seldom ventures out in the open to reveal its true color. Knowing that, I brought a flash and extender with me, but there was a problem, I forgot to buy batteries!! Lucky, Doc Paul was with us and have spare batteries with him. Philippine Fairy-bluebird ( Irena cyanogastra) Endemic - Nov 3, 2012, Ma Aurora National Park 5DM3 + 600 f4 IS + 2x Kenko TC, click photo for complete exif data With Flash

Wow, another valuable lesson learned, Ka Mastah! Thanks a lot for the tips, I'll use this for the next pass as I arrived late from a sortie in the Sierra Madre :-)

Thanks Doc Boy! How do you differentiate Male from female? here's a long shot, now which one is male? Got the shot from the Siera Madre range. Thanks Ramon and Ely, Yes, distance in meters. The only thing missing from the exif data is the 2x Kenko TC, it AF but doesn't register. Got the shot from the Siera Madre range. And yes, like humans, it has to sunbathe its front too, for evenness. :-) And to top all the captures is the full body shot. :-) Cheers!

Got this during my Halloween sortie up in the mountains. This bird was motionless for several minutes and I thought it was dead... Click on photo for exif data And I was blown off my feet when it resurrected! And drove all the way back to show you all what I got I'm hopping something is done right away to protect the remaining habitat stronghold of this species.

Finally I was able to get the Red Crested Malkoha in the open and in good light. I saw the malkoha flew to a row of trees and knowing its character when it forages, waited at the other end of the row, saw a potential branch that it will perch before flying (gliding) to the next set of trees, and waited and enjoyed watching the bird forage among the tangle of branches. Red-crested Malkoha ( Phaenicophaeus superciliosus) 5DM3 + 600 f4 IS + 2x Kenko TC, f14, 1/500 sec, ISO 2000, Tv priority, Tripod-Gimbal support I should have lowered the ISO but I set it up anticipating the changes in lighting and forgot about it when the bird perched :-) Here are the other birds I got. White-throated Kingfisher ( Halcyon smyrnensis) 5DM3 + 600 f4 IS + 2x Kenko TC, f6.3, 1/100 sec, ISO 2000, Tv priority, -4/3 EV, Tripod-Gimbal support, NR on BG Finally a lifer, it was a long shot and early in the morning, out of several shots this is the only acceptable capture. Plain Bush-hen ( Amaurornis olivacea) 5DM3 + 600 f4 IS + 2x Kenko TC, f5, 1/100 sec, ISO 2000, Tv priority, -1/3 EV, Tripod-Gimbal support

While waiting for the RPFC this pair perched just a few meters inside my lens' MFD so I needed to slowly back off and was able to shoot it at 8m distance a good 2.5m away from the MFD. If I have know this pair was followed by the RPFC around I would have shot the RPFC at the same distance that was perched just to my left and only saw it when I took my eyes off the VF when the MBFC pair flew to another branch. I wasn't able to train my camera on it as it went and followed the pair. Only on successive sorties that I realized what was happening. By following the MBFC family, the RPFC was an easy bird to find. :-) Mangrove Blue-Flycatcher ( Cyornis rufigastra) Female with fledgling5DM3 + 600 f4 IS + 1.4x Sigma TC, f6.3, 1/200 sec, ISO 12800, Tv priority, +1 EV, Tripod-Gimbal support, Under available light.

Thanks Prof Tirso, Ariel and Ramon. Here's another photo from the same burst but this one processed to lessen the noise a little bit so I can crop a little closer. 5DM3 + 600 f4 IS + 2x Kenko TC, f5.6 (f11.2), 1/60 sec, ISO 10000, Manual exposure, Tripod-Gimbal support, 8.5m distance Tried a new workflow to reduce noise....this is a bigger crop (62% of original) from the photo above.

Thanks Ely, Doc William and Ramon!
@ramon, yes as soon as I've turned my head around after the service car you took made a U-turn I heard the immature MBFC and waited about a minute then I saw the RPFC among the thickets but could not take a shot until it flew on a tree branch in the open in the corner where the road forks. I was out and packed before the rains fell. Swerte lang talaga! :-)

Thanks Ely, Doc William and Plain Idol Tins! The RPFC was such an irresistible quarry that one day is not enough and I went again for a second consecutive day to get better shots. From what I got I need to go back again sometime. :-). Here's some more captures showing the diversity of birds at LMEP. Drongo-Cuckoo ( Surniculus lugubris) - LMEP August 31, 2012 5DM3 + 600 f4 IS + 1.4x Sigma TC, f 6.3, 1/200 sec, ISO 3200, Tv priority, +4/3 EV, Tripod-Gimbal support, a long shot. White-eared Dove ( Phapitreron leucotis) - LMEP August 31, 2012 5DM3 + 600 f4 IS + 1.4x Sigma TC, f 5.6, 1/200 sec, ISO 4000, Tv priority, +1 EV, Tripod-Gimbal support, a long shot. Mangrove Blue-Flycatcher ( Cyornis rufigastra) Female with fledgling. LMEP - August 31, 2012. 5DM3 + 600 f4 IS + 1.4x Sigma TC, f 6.3, 1/200 sec, ISO 12800, Tv priority, EV +1, Tripod-Gimbal support Rufous Paradise-Flycatcher ( Terpsiphone cinnamomea) 5DM3 + 600 f4 IS + 1.4x Sigma TC, f 5.6, 1/200 sec, ISO 12800, Tv priority, +1 EV, Tripod-Gimbal support Looks like I need to go back and get lower ISO shots :-(
