I love both pictures! The first one, I find very interesting... there is a lone bird of the different species at the bottom of the picture, going at a different direction. Birds of the same feather... they look alike?

I was cleaning my SD card this morning and saw this capture of a Brown Shrike at Hardin ng Rosas. I gave it a look and with some levels adjustment and cropping, i think it came out fine. D80, Bigma at 500, ISO 800, f10, 1/250s, cropped and levels enhanced

What a series! Mental note... bring lots of preying mantis to lure the BRT to the ground... he, he, he...
Congratulations Bob!

Hi!
I am attending the Advertising Congress in Subic next week. We will be travelling on the the 18th but the sessions will not officially start until the following day, November 19.
I might have time to bird on the afternoon of the 18th and on the morning or afternoon of the 20th... Any suggestions on must explore places? Are there guides who can be contacted ahead. I wouldn't want to get lost in the jungles of Subic.
Thanks in advance!
Gabs

Thanks Bobby, Edu, Toto and Sylvia! These are all encouraging. I hope to bring them along in a sortie.
Would anyone know of one that would fall in Toto's recommendation - lots of birds - for newbies to enjoy? As they say, the first one would leave the most lasting impression. The more they see and capture with their current cameras, the more encouraged they would be to pursue the hobby.
Cheers!

ha, ha, ha... true! they'd be blaming me for the one-full-meal-a-day-only diet.
not to mention stiff neck and eyestrain from 6 to 7 hours looking upwards towards the trees and often against harsh light.
let's see if my powers are enough to lure them into birding.
cheers!

Hi! Some of my friends are getting interested in birdwatching and bird photography after I told them how exciting, challenging relaxing it could be.
The question they would ask however is if they can use their P&S cameras with so many mega pixels and so much magnification capabilities for bird photography. My answer would always be: Of course you could use it, but there would always be trade offs. Other than lens limitations and limited setting capabilities, what should I be warning them about when using P&S?
Regards,
Gabs

Hi! This is a very elegant looking heron!!! The framing gives you that "all you see is mine" feeling. Or is it "a world of opportunities" look?

Edu, thanks! Bob, nice meeting you and I hope to see you again. (Sayang yun Barbet... I also saw Doc Mando and Bong on my way back to my ride.)
Ely, will probably try the manual mode so I can adjust the settings. Was on aperture priority and what I notice with the D80 is that it does over expose a bit.
Tina, thanks! Now if I can only get half as good as you... I'd be truly happy. (Luck is the right word... we were packing our gear to move to the other side of MSI and just at that very moment, I saw it perch right on top of us. And more luck, it moved to a branch with a better view.
Neon, this was taken with a tripod and a Benro ballhead. (That's why I was a bit disappointed with the IQ.) The BRT was so still I thought I was nailing the focus.
Mark, thanks so much and nice meeting you!
You are all very encouraging. With your tips and company, I cannot but get better! I almost feel I owe it you you to get better, he, he, he...
Cheers!
