Went birding at UP this morning. Saw Bob and family. We walked to MSI and met birders Mark, Ding and Toto. We were about to move to look for Long Tailed Shrikes when the BRT showed itself to us. Lots of ants but we just clicked on! D80, Bigma at 500, 2XTC, F9, 1/3s, MF, Cropped and levels enhanced... sigh... still a long way to go in terms of image quality, but enjoying the hobby.

Anybody has experience on the Bigma coupled with a 2X kenko TC? Would it AF? How is the IQ?
Thanks in advance.

From Malolos, after visiting my lolo and lola at the cemetery, I just dropped the kids home in QC and proceeded to UPD, hoping to shoot the Java Sparrows. Taking the left after the guard house along the University Avenue, I saw a flock of Cattle Egrets. Put the car on hazard and took 10 or so shots from the car. D80, 500mm, 1/100s, f16, Converted to JPEG, Cropped, Adjust Levels D80, 500mm, 1/50s, f16, Converted to JPEG, Cropped, Adjust Levels D80, 500mm, 1/160s, f16, Converted to JPEG, Cropped, Adjust Levels At the nesting site of the JS, saw 6 birdnuts waiting for a chance to shoot. Unfortunately the JS didn't show up. Nice meeting all of you this afternoon. Let's try again tomorrow.

nice to have met the 3 of you this morning mga ser. unfortunately had to leave much earlier... daddy duties... kaya siguro LTS at for a few fleeting seconds, the BRT lang ang nakita ko kanina. di ako nag-antay.
sir edu, hope to see you sometime. (mga takas birding sorties lang ang nagagawa ko eh.)

thanks for starting this. i tried 2XTC yesterday at vargas and AF just kept hunting. lens max aperture at 500mm is 6.3. that might be the reason as sir ely mentione above.
had to go manual, but was really a challenge. would have to invest on a good tripod for it to be usable.
great job sir toto!!!

Good to hear you are recovering these files Ka Mastah Romy. That's the spirit we need during times of calamity. It would take a while and and a lot of effort to restore them. But it would make precious memories even more precious!
Cheers!

for a while i've always thought that the YVB and the shrikes are the same... until i went birdwatching with profjerry last year. i think brown shrikes are what we in bulacan call tarat. i remember my uncle telling me when i was younger that tarats have large heads. but i may be wrong...
pied fantails are called maria capra in bulacan.
