Fantastic capture, Mark!
I will be in Davao to attend a wedding in April. But I decided to just fly in and out, completely forgetting that I could've swung by Malagos if I stayed over. I'm now kicking myself.

Good tip, Master.
I had a bad experience with a Kingston SD card some years back. Got one for my wife's pointnshoot and it was broken after a few months. That's when I solidifed my decision never to go for anything but Sandisk (which continues to serve me well).
But would appreciate any future posts on how your Kingston card performs. Maybe I just chanced upon a one-in-amillion lemon.

This relatively small bird has always been tough for me as it always stays on the topmost branch so my past photos were either from a bad-angle or severely backlit (or both). Was lucky enough to do a good-enough long shot as the bird perched on branch slightly lower than my backyard fence. Note the orange-ish cheek. Can anyone confirm (or correct) my ID? f/8, 1/80s, ISO160 manual focus, manual exposuref/8, 1/125s, ISO160 manual focus, manual exposureCanon 40D + Canon 400mm 5.6L + Kenko 1.4xTC Manfrotto monopod + Benro gimbal head

I like the colors and the lines in the crossbill photo. It really conveys the motion.

Beautiful, Ms Plain!
Now, why is the Black-headed Gull's head white? Why doesn't the Whiskered Tern have whiskers? Why don't I ever find Barn Swallows in barns?

Ms Purple Heron gladly obliged to a risque photoshoot but, right before I pressed the shutter, a wave of decency came over her and she exclaimed "Oooh, a little privacy, puh-lease! 13.5 meters shot with a 700mm! Wow! Congrats.
Had to check out where Cervantes is. Noticed it's not on the usual route between Sagada (Mt Data) and Baguio. Did you take a detour?

One of these things is not like the others, One of these things just doesn't belong. Can you tell which thing is not like the others Before I finish my song?

These are to-die-for photos! We staked them out one evening but no-show. Ironically, UP's just across te road from my office but never found the right time to go. Ahhh, that owl's got your name on it, Neon. But I got one, too!

Wow. That's a most uncommon angle of that bird!
I also like the composition.

Oh, I know the feeling.
There are times (rarely though) when a bird just sits there and I know I've taken a gazillion good shots already but I still click away. I almost wish the bird would fly away already.

If there's a boat that will bring us there before sunrise, we'll be there!

Thanks, Nilo. BTW my kumpare, Hoton Elicano, says he knows you through a common acquaintance/relative at work I can't recall.
We'll probably be at Olango early Sunday morning Feb 21. We promised the wives we'll meet them for lunch at some beach by noon so it'll have to be a real quickie.

On the 3-day weekend in Feb, will fly to Cebu to visit my kumpare. He's not a birder but he promised to take me to Olango. I promised to bring him a pair of binoculars, he promised to bring a cooler of beer. Not sure if I'll more birding than beer-ing but if I do, would appreciate any tips. I know I posted a thread like this before but too lazy to do a search.

2. I use a disposable shower cap (the ones given free by hotels) to cover the front of my hood on long hikes, or in dusty conditions between shoots. He-he. I do that, too. In a pocket of my shooting vest, I have a disposable shower cap and a trash bag, just in case it rains. Kids saw the disposable shower cap once and thought I'm prepared for an uncontrollable urge to take a bath.
