On the 3-day weekend in Feb, will fly to Cebu to visit my kumpare. He's not a birder but he promised to take me to Olango. I promised to bring him a pair of binoculars, he promised to bring a cooler of beer. Not sure if I'll more birding than beer-ing but if I do, would appreciate any tips. I know I posted a thread like this before but too lazy to do a search.

I can give you tips for both Ding However, you have to indicate preference (birding or beer-ing) for better results hehehe Seriously, please give specific dates so I can share or even craft a trip plan for you. The dates should give us an idea of the tide patterns. This is important if you are to get better angle/lighting of your subjects. Your target species in the site should be the Dowitcher, Chinese Egrets, Grey Plover, Curlews and similar shorebirds. Nilo

Thanks, Nilo. BTW my kumpare, Hoton Elicano, says he knows you through a common acquaintance/relative at work I can't recall.
We'll probably be at Olango early Sunday morning Feb 21. We promised the wives we'll meet them for lunch at some beach by noon so it'll have to be a real quickie.

Ding, at low tide, Olango can bring you tons of lifers. I suggest you plan your visit so it coincides with the low tide.

If there's a boat that will bring us there before sunrise, we'll be there!

We saw lots of the the specialty birds in this site in good numbers. Low tide going high should give you a good chance of selecting individual target birds. I already inform our warden friends there of your visit this February. Btw, your kumpare is the immediate boss of my wife ;D I saw your framed Scops owl in their house (properly lighted). The details are amazing, excellent overall quality. Nilo
