Hi Tina, I bought 3 x 4GB CF 66x cards two weeks ago at P1,600.00 each for our use here in Cebu. Its relatively slow compared to the exterme but the buffer of the 40D is large enough to absord the 6.5 FPS burst. So far no problem with the card... Nilo WOW that's a really good deal !!!!!! 4 gb for $59.95 That's dirt cheap ! The thing with amazon is that the price changes like crazy, just when you thought you got a good deal, the next day the price could be lower or higher. Will PM you how

Would any of the members be interested in this ? This is the 2nd batch already and i got this batch at 450.00@ JP used this to make a blind (for photography) but I have yet to see it. They sell this in the U.S for $14.99 (no tax & shipping charges yet) Pictures below are the actual ones that I took. The one in amazon was poorly taken P.S. if you do decide to get one, you will have to shoulder the courier charges or IF I have gone birding with you a couple of times already, you can just pick it up at my place in the far off land called Munti ;D Hi Tina, Is the camo back to back or only one side? Thanks

Thanks for vouching for the lens Bobby! If there are interested parties, I can arrange a "try before you buy" (if you're in the Manila area, that is. ). TJ, Someone from Cebu is asking about third party lens for Nikon, is this available pa? Sir Bobby, Maybe Joy can try the lens of TJ and see if this will work for her intended purpose. Then we will have another birdnut recruit in Cebu ;D

Sir Bobby K. noticed that this photo is lighter/overexposed than it should be. Please do let me know how this photo is rendered in your monitor so appropriate adjustments can be made at my end. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Just wanted to show the outcome when the Adobe PS Smart Sharpen and USM filters are used to sharpen the image. Original Photo - just cropped and shadows and highlights adjusted. Here applied Smart Sharpen 250, 3, 0, after resizing applied USM 40, 5, 0 This one - applied Smart Sharpen 250, 3, 0,and Noise reduction 2x, after resizing applied USM 40, 2, 0 This is just to show how the Smart Sharpen filter works. The photos are a little bit over sharpened and some halos are appearing but you can always adjust the values to your taste. Cheers, Neon Thanks for sharing Neon. I will reprocess some Pygmy FP shots using your WF.

Thanks, Neon. How about 'metering'? Are they (WB) somewhat related? Hi Ed, Metering = Exposure while White Balance = How camera will render white objects in various lighting conditions. You can have correct exposure with unpleasant color cast as a result of inaccurate WB or the other way around. Nilo

Nice shot Neon. I noticed a reddish cast/color in the hind legs. Is this because of the lighting or its natual reptilian color? Nilo Wow!! love the turtle or is it suppose to be called a tortoise since it is not from the sea? Here is a lizard from Darwin, right after I got paroled. You know during this time anything that moves is fair game. ;D Cheers, Neon

A warm welcome from Cebu, Central Philippines Sandy. I'm sure you will have a good time with the birdnuts in Manila. Hope you and your family can visit other birding areas of P.I. Nilo This is STweedty. Thanks for all the messages. Yes, I'm a filipina, (always be), from Portland, Oregon. I was born in Cagayan de oro but family moved to Davao. Came to US as a nurse (Chicago) in '77. Been birding for 25 years, thanks to my husband, who introduced me to it, now I'm hooked. Our travels revolve around birding. Been to Arizona, Alaska, Florida and more places just to see our feathered friends. This is will be our first serious birding in Manila. Be a treat to meet anyone of you or all of you from the forum. Thanks for having me. My real name is Sandra (Sandy) Ibanez Tweedt. Cheers.

Welcome to the group Rene. Hi, my name is Rene and I'm from Puerto Rico (a small island in the Caribbean). I like to take birds shots and after that landscapes and some macros (when there are no birds ). I was browsing dpreview two days ago when I saw the link to this site, two seconds later I was reading all messages here . Thanks a lot to Romy and all his/her friends for the creation of this photography bird site. Saludos, Rene

Now I have details to start to work on. Sorry that I’m pain in the neck and a stupid beginner. I will stop my thread about equipment budget and will continue to post and appreciate the photos on this group. But when I get my ransom money (ay budget pala), expect me to be makulit again. LOL Salamat. Hi Ruby, I started my bird photo attemp in 2003 with a Canon 55e and a 28-105mm lens. At that time, most of my friends were laughing at the idea of being a bird photog with these equipment. However, I also take photos of birding areas/habitat/landscape so the zoom gives me that flexibility. The masters have summarized the minimum focal length as 400mm for most of the birds in the country. You can also consider Teleconverters. A friend was able to capture small birds with a good 70-200mm f/2.8 L + 2x TC with details using. Welcome to the forum. Nilo

Welcome to board Jun. Our subjects are birds but it is also very important to check the state of their habitat. We are losing important forest cover at a catastrophic rate and PICOP is on top of that. I still want to visit that place in the near futu5re and take photos of Celestial Monarch and other specialty. If you have chance (and this should be true for all of us), please take photos of the forest and the rate of destruction. This can help entities, NGOs or government take positive action. Thanks. Nilo Hi Guys, Jun Osano here. I'm a Civil Engineer by profession but photography is my hobby. I've been wanting to shoot birds for a long long time. I have shot birds before using film cameras but im no expert. My playground is in the province of Surigao del Sur in a place called Bislig, my hometown. Sir Romy, have you been to our place? They say it is one of the best place for birding. Ive seen guys from England who go there every year. I also saw Timothy Fisher there. They say he also knows a lot about birds. Right now, Im based in Manila and hope someday i could meet up with you guys.

A much welcome site and much better with readily viewed images. Mabuhay. Since I am U.S.-based, I will mostly share U.S. birds although there were some species that extends to a worldwide distribution like Great Blue Heron, Great White Herons, White-Tailed Kites, Northern Shovellers, Black-Crowned Night Herons, etc. Mabuhay again. gil Welcome to the group Gil.

Ding, I can give Romy a better deal. In situations like this, the Bigma is I think more flexible in terms of reach ;D ;D ;D Amazing details Romy!! May I make a suggestion on how to solve your predicament of too-much-focal length: Let's swap my 400mm to your 500mm! And, because you're a very dear and idolized friend, I'll do you the favor of throwing in a Kenko 1.4X. But really, sharp-as-a-knife shot. I can see your point re strong wind causing selective blurring. Cropping to a headshot is a good idea.
