Hello Fellow Birders,
In 2 days time I'm finally going back for a long overdue visit to my beloved Philippines. This will be my first in 10yrs. I'm planning to do some birding on this trip.
Last night, while taking out the 400mm f5.6 from its case, the lens hood got stuck while extended 2.5in from front of lens. Now it will not return and not even move. I cannot even remove the lens cover with my fingers because of the tight space to squeeze the 2 side little tabs. I used a screw driver to squeeze those tabs.
My question would be, have you heard anyone who has similar issues and had it repaired by Canon Philippines. I was wondering if this is just a 1 or 2 days jobs since it's just the hood.
Thanks in advance for any info.
Regards, Conrad

Beautiful bird Ariel. The price is worth as long as it's guaranteed for you to see different kinds of birds. We sometimes travel to places just to see a one or two kinds of birds and spend more than that.

During our Bahamas cruise last month, this beautiful sunrise over the Atlantis Resort greeted us as the ship (Norwegian Jewel) enters the port of Nassau. 7D, Sigma 17-70mm @70mm, ISO200, f5.6, 3 exposure shots (1/2000s, 1/500s, 1/125s) blended to look more natural

Another stunning set. It felt like almost seing a live bird on my monitor. Great clarity of details in the first 3 pics. Well done Ely.

I wonder why the colors come in blotches. They look like they were placed there for decor. Thank you for sharing your pictures & Mabuhay. Thanks Ely. First, I thought what I got was just a common sparrow. Only later I've known that what I've got was a lifer.

Beautiful bird. Except for the solid blue color wings and longer tail, it has a resemblance with our blue jay.

Hi Conrad, Curved culmen. Carpodacus. In North America. House Finch Thanks for the correction Steve. I had a hard time identifying between the two. I'm using the Sibley's book as my reference and I gave more preference on the "distinctly notched tail' rather than the bill shape.

It's been a while since I last posted. It's really hard to motivate myself to go out in below freezing temperature environment. Well, summer is almost here and that means birding season for us in this part of the world. I was blessed to get this lifer in one of my early visit to a local park for this year. 7D + 400mm + 1.4TC, f9, ISO 100, 1/160s, Manual Exposure, Manual Focusing, Tripod 7D + 400mm + 1.4TC, f9, ISO 400, 1/500s, Manual Exposure, Manual Focusing, Tripod 7D + 400mm + 1.4TC, f9, ISO 400, 1/500s, Manual Exposure, Manual Focusing, Tripod

Great set Ely. How far is the nest from the ground. I was surprised you took the pics with just the S100. Cheers

Love the warm colors of your pics Mick. At least you've got a warmer temp than us. We've got a beautiful sunny day yesterday but as soon as you stepped out, you feel like someone is pinching your face constrantly because of the -10C temp. Three more months before birding season for me :-(

Went to a local park today and was glad to see this mockingbird is back on his favorite tree. I'm not sure though if it is the same bird from last year. 7d, 400MM, f6.3, 1/800s, ISO400 7d, 400MM, f6.3, 1/800s, ISO800
