My first time to see this guy up close. So close that I have to move backward to get the full body at 200mm focal length. I was really surprised how big he is compared to other woodpeckers. Almost twice the size. Nikon D500 w/ Nikon 200-500mm f5.6; 290mm; ƒ/5.6; 1/1000; ISO 3600, Handheld, Manual Mode in Auto ISO [/url]

Nice capture Romy. I have not seen this bird in flight but how does it compares to the swallows in terms of erratic flight pattern?

Sometimes, the birds are hesitant to take to the air over Bued River. So I try to capture any other creature that flies. I wish though that I got this one earlier in its life cycle, when its "plumage" was more pristine and photogenic. Excellent BIF Romy. This is a very difficult subject to capture because of its erratic flight pattern.

Thanks Romy. As we gained more knowledge in this expensive hobby of ours, the next thing we look at after having a good lighting for our subject is to have nice, unclatter background as well.

The long wait is finally over to see up close this Red-bellied Woodpecker. Always saw him at a distance, never closer.
