Looks like an immature Little Pied Flycatcher to me. Let's wait for expert confirmation.

Thanks everyone for looking and the comments! I can't wait to see the video of your avatar! when is it coming out? Or it was posted already and I just missed it? This was an old video which I posted way back, partner. Here's reposting it for you. ;D _________________ HD video of a Collared Kingfisher ( Todiramphus chloris) buzzing a Whimbrel ( Numenius phaeopus) while the latter is foraging on a dried-up pond. I've been trying for quite a long time to get this bird in flight with a non-sky background. I finally caught it this morning, courtesy of the fastest handheld BIF combo on the planet. ;D ;D ;D Yellow-vented Bulbul ( Pycnonotus goiavier, resident) Shooting Info - Paranaque City, Philippines, May 2, 2011, 1D4 + 400 5.6L, 1/1600 sec, f/7.1, ISO 400, manual exposure in available light, hand held (for both photos).

Nice detail, very pleasing colors, lovely background and excellent exposure make this capture one of the best I've seen of the tough-to-catch endemic creeper.
Big congrats Toto for the frameable lifer!

Thanks, Tonji and Ely! Even if its that far, now that you mentioned that there is a place to stay, I am venturing on making a trip to Zambales. Are the mangoes still in season? This is to as the saying goes get two birds with one stone. Your pictures does not leave much to be desired, in fact it makes one desire to be able to take pictures like that. Excellent! Well done Romy & Mabuhay. It is peak mango season at Zambales now. I bought 3 kaings this trip at PHP 35/kg for the largest sizes, but that price was arrived at after much haggling. The vendors normally quote at PHP 40 - 45/kg. The cheapest and sweetest Zambales mangoes are sold at Masinloc public market.

Thanks, Tirso, Neon, Edu, William and Mark! Great video especially the lighting condition, Ka Mastah. Can't wait to see the still photo (if there is any). I did take some record-type stills first. But the crake was moving and I had to use ISO 6400 to make 1/160 sec. I decided that shooting video (where 1/60s is useable) will get the most out of the bad lighting situation. Ruddy-breasted Crake ( Porzana fusca, resident) Shooting Info - Sta. Cruz, Zambales, Philippines, April 25, 2011, Canon 1D MIV + EF 500 f4 IS + 1.4x TC II, 700 mm, f/5.6, ISO 6400, 1/160 sec, manual exposure in available light, 475B/516 support.

Thanks, Neon, Chito, Steve and Rey! In case you're wondering why my newer videos are rendered to a 1:2.4 aspect ratio, there are two good reasons: (1) to make the footage more "cinematic" and (2) to save on bandwidth. An embedded 16:9 clip is usually 640x360 pixels, while a 2.4:1 is 640x267 pixels. The latter has about 26% lower data throughput than the first, thus making it possible to download/view in real time even with 384 kbps connections.

Hi, Romy. Great shot! Was this taken in Brgy. Malabago, north of Sta. Cruz, Zambales? Romel Hi Romel, I'm not sure of the name of the barangay, but it's the fishpond area at the left of the road when one has just passed Sta. Cruz town proper going north. You've got a nice birding place there, and the fishpond folks are very friendly too!

Thanks, Dennis, Rey, Tina, Louie and William! man oh man !!! IDOL talaga kita. Perfect exposure etc etc etc etc - Excellent pictures IDOL Romy :-) What an exciting day it must have been. I'm always thrilled whenever we are in Sta. Cruz. The hard part lang is the drive going there from Subic which is always our home base... It's so far !!! LOL. You can check out Dawal Resort at nearby Candelaria town, just before you hit Sta. Cruz coming from Subic. They have decent rooms and a restaurant. You can go there straight from Manila and check in at about lunch time. Then you can bird in the afternoon and early morning after. It's about 10-15 minutes drive from the fishponds. It's tough to drive all the way from Subic, bird, then drive back exhausted .

From September up to April, the vast fishponds of Sta. Cruz, Zambales, are a favorite spot of migratory birds gorging on easy-to-catch farmed fish. I dropped by the area yesterday to check out the visiting birds. There are still quite many migrants around, but I ignored the waterbirds and instead concentrated on catching two raptor species that are fishpond regulars - the migratory Osprey and the resident Brahminy Kite. These are the closest captures I've ever taken of the Osprey. I counted at least 5 individuals of this migratory bird of prey, fishing all day and presumably trying to stock up on fuel for the long flight to their breeding grounds. Osprey ( Pandion haliaetus, migrant) Shooting Info - Sta. Cruz, Zambales, Philippines, 2011, Canon 1D MIV + EF 500 f4 IS + 1.4x TC II, 700 mm, f/7.1, ISO 400, 1/1600 sec, manual exposure in available light, 475B/516 support (identical settings for the three photos). And one of another fishing raptor to break the Osprey monotony. Brahminy Kite ( Haliastur indus, resident) Shooting Info - Sta. Cruz, Zambales, Philippines, 2011, Canon 1D MIV + EF 500 f4 IS + 1.4x TC II, 700 mm, f/6.3, ISO 400, 1/1600 sec, manual exposure in available light, 475B/516 support.
