With its location inside Metro Manila the UP Diliman Campus is the most accessible place to see birds in habitat. The campus has diverse ecological niches where a particular species of birds can be found. There are forest, grassland and wetland habitats that can be explored in this small patch of green in the middle of the city. Our favorite birding places are: Hardin ng Rosas – Is considered as a wetland / open grassland environment where you can find bird species that can be found in marshes and rivers. UP Lagoon / Front of Main Library – Is a mix of wetland and forest habitat. And all throughout the campus are fruiting trees that attracts fruit eating birds when they are in season. Below are the birds that have been photographed in this bird haven in the middle of the city. Guys, please post your pictures of UP birds as well.Long-tailed Shrike ( Lanius schach) Black Winged Stilt ( Himantopus himantopus) Coppersmith Barbet ( Megalaima hemacephala) Olive-backed Sunbird ( Cinnyris jugularis) – juvenile male Blue Rock Thrush - Male ( Monticola solitarius) Striated Grassbird ( Megalurus palustris) Philippine Nightjar ( Caprimulgus manillensis) Golden-bellied "Flyeater" Gerygone ( Gerygone sulphurea) Swinhoe's Snipe ( Gallinago megala)

Wonderful set guys! Another very accessible birding place. Are these birds around even during summer?
Any tips if one has to go and shoot in UP, specially re: security and the guards?
Thanks

Hi everyone! These are great captures. I'll be in Manila from June 1-20 and plan to do some birding. How do I get hold of Prof Jerry? Can I just show up at UPD or would I need some pass to get in?
I also plan to visit Candaba and Makiling. Any tips and advice would be much appreciated. Hope to meet some of you.
For those who want to send me an email, I can be reached at vvyap@aol.com.
Maraming salamat, Voltaire

Such beautiful photos Trinket !!!! It's always nice to see the "bigger picture". Specially of places where we frequently bird at.
Good luck with the guided birdwatching trip for first-timers in UP on May 4 Trinket. Hope a lot of people will join so that more people will appreciate our fine feathered friends.

With shots like that, I'd bet that the UP community would be very surprise and proud if they knew what they have in campus. I'd love to see a photo-exhibit sponsored by a student organization or perhaps the Alumni and set-up at the AS building. Calling the iskolars ng bayan...
