There are quite a number of feral parrots here in the San Gabriel Valley. I got this just a block away from where my wife works. The picture is just begging for a caption...so why not give it a try, folks. 30D, 100-400@390, ISO-400, 1/500, f8, handheld

Mastah Romy, the reason I have that much is that birds are easier to photograph here in the states. Also there is a great variety of habitats right here in California - therefore there's a wide diversity of species. If you were here since 2004 you would have garnered maybe 500 already.

What a great collection, Tina! I liked the way you "fixed" the owl background.

Thanks for your comments. @tina, I guess this courtship ritual happens in late winter (February) up to early spring (March). When you're here in southern California, let me know and Cynthia and I will be glad to take you to where this spectacle happens. @ted, skies are starting to lighten up. I'm sure there will be Western/Clark Grebes at the lakes near your neck of the woods.

Some time ago, Mastah Romy asked me if I have seen the courtship ritual of grebes. At that time I didn't even know that such spectacle of nature occurs in California much less in winter. Well, finally on Valentine's day, my wife and I saw it. Clark's Grebes, Bonelli Regional Park, San Dimas, California 40D, 500mm + 1.4x, ISO-400, 1/800, f11, tripod and gimbal head.

Nice shot, Ted. You'll get your Baldy one of these days. It took me four years before I got one - and a juvenile at that. Anyway, here's my Red-shouldered. It was screaming at the bigger Red-tailed Hawk perched on its favorite tree. The Red-shouldered eventually gave as the Red-tailed kept ignoring it. 30D, 400mm, ISO-200, 1/640, f9

Wow, Jun, these are fantastic shots of a very hard-to-photograph bird. It is constantly moving and blends well with the tree trunk it inhabits. Good job!

Ted, the slightly upturned bill confirms it is indeed a Greater yellowlegs (Tringa melanoleuca) Here's a reference photo:
