Some time ago, Mastah Romy asked me if I have seen the courtship ritual of grebes. At that time I didn't even know that such spectacle of nature occurs in California much less in winter. Well, finally on Valentine's day, my wife and I saw it. Clark's Grebes, Bonelli Regional Park, San Dimas, California 40D, 500mm + 1.4x, ISO-400, 1/800, f11, tripod and gimbal head.

Great shot documenting the ritual, Bob. So they also observe the day of hearts.

Nice capture Bob! That's one of those behaviors worth photographing.
If not for the freezing rains recently, it's almost spring time. (Darn rains, it made the situations difficult for the cyclists of the Tour of California which kicked-off here in Sacramento).
Time to capture courtship rituals, I hope I can capture some this season.

Thanks for your comments. @tina, I guess this courtship ritual happens in late winter (February) up to early spring (March). When you're here in southern California, let me know and Cynthia and I will be glad to take you to where this spectacle happens. @ted, skies are starting to lighten up. I'm sure there will be Western/Clark Grebes at the lakes near your neck of the woods.
