Wow, surreal. Nice work Edwin!
Do they tend to flee or are they one of the more relaxed species?

Hi Ely, I believe they are a pair. I think there were 2 pairs and an extra. They mate for life don't they? I considered myself very lucky for the quick grabs. Nice video of the parrots. Is that a pair? Well done Chris. Mabuhay.

Thanks Neon! They just arrived last night. Usually I see the pair once every few months. There were 5 in total including the juvenile. The close up was from kitchen window, they seem to like that plant. =) Wow, nice clip, Chris!! You got both sexes as well, plus a molting juvenile male. Great job!

30D + 400L 5.6 wide open 400ISO 1/200 handheld A lifer for me. Was not ready at all and this guy just showed up out the window! Video was too shaky, no support. So popped the lens on the 30D to make sure I could ID!

Yeah, I wish they would hurry up and add the missing frame rates for the 5Dii. then i might be interested.
and in terms of their cropped sensor offering a 10ish mp would be perfect for both stills and video. too many dots on the 7D.
fun yeah? he he

These dudes were hanging out long jetty way. I hope you guys don't mind the videos. I know this is a photoboard but what is a photog to do when his camera suddenly does HD. 7D+400L 1/50 100 - intermediate egret with silver gull On a more serious note, I do enjoy reviewing behaviour this way. We spend time looking and observing and this seems like just reward to be able to rewind and review the days takings. Enjoy.

Thanks for concern. I usually have a sound guy work with me... but personally I'd rather have a silent film than use someone's work without the preliminaries. I would hate to find my work being posted somewhere without... etc etc etc. I hope you don't find offense with this comment. We all have our boundaries with this stuff. I'm very new to motion pics and I have learned that you sometimes cannot do it alone and have to collaborate. Just another way of doing things. Can't really crop heavily either. Or fix horizons easily. It's challenging but fun! ...bird vid karaoke?

Intermediate Egret. Tough tough tough stabilizing a 400mm. Will start playing with higher shutter speed or try out a higher frame rate. BIFs are something else. That's next. 7D + 400L 5.6 1/50th f11ish ISO100

Thanks Bob! I just found the embed feature in the menu but looks like you've got other parameters I can use. Appreciate your help. The chicks made my day. I was actually scouting a location nearby. For anyone interested... Some birds do venture in here also. Chance to learn embed code... Further EDIT: got it, tags come from our board... parameters from vimeo. Cool. =) CL

Went for a walk at Centennial Park on Boxing day (26th). Funny, I have not even shot stills with this cam after 3 weeks or so of ownership! 7D + 70-200 2.8IS 400ISO 2.8ish 1/50th 1080 25P Purple Swamphen (No audio since I cannot find a royalty free track for this and the background noise was disruptive) www.vimeo.com/8415225Exported small since my internet is kinda slow at the moment! ...can I embed vimeo on this board?

It might be frustrating if birds are moving since P&S have a long lag between acquiring focus and snapping the frame. Unless of course the subjects are relatively stationary.
I would also suggest using video mode if the P&S has one. This may not yield high res stills but the point is to get them interested. And a video might yield a more encouraging capture. The delivery medium will most likely be screen/email anyway, so something on youtube vs flickr is neither here nor there.

Thanks Steve. To be frank (not bruce) I am not stressed about this. Beauty of photos vs just watching. Can always refine ID much later.
