Hi gang, The popular Kusina Salud at San Pablo City will celebrate Earth Day on April 19th by holding a dinner-program that features the following: 1. Talk on wild bird photography, slide show and photo exhibit by the Sigmonster Tamer. 2. Performances by poet Nerisa Guevara, thespian Nonie Buencamino and electronic musician Malek Lopez. The event, according to the organizers, is expected to draw about a hundred "educated individuals who believe in a proactive lifestyle of sustainable development." It starts at around 3:00 pm and ends at dinner time (about 7 - 8 pm). Tickets to the event will be at PHP 500.00 per head, inclusive of the talk, the performance, merienda and dinner. A portion of the ticket proceeds will go to the Artists Welfare Project, while another portion is intended for the Sigmonster Tamer's preferred charity (in this case, we'll probably use it to upgrade PBPF's server services). For those who are interested to attend the affair, I was allowed to sell a maximum of 10 tickets. I'm reserving 3 tickets for some friends, so that leaves 7 available for the gang. If anybody wishes to attend, please list your names below. Details on payment will be announced later. 1. Reserved for friends of the Sigmonster Tamer 2. Reserved for friends of the Sigmonster Tamer 3. Reserved for friends of the Sigmonster Tamer 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. If you wish to know more about the venue, please click on Kusina Salud for more information. Romy

I'm interested! But will have to check my calendar first (am on the road) and the wife (the bigger factor). BTW, we love Kusina Salud. I would recommend that, after the affair, spend the night at Kinabuhayan Cafe, a few minutes drive to Dolores, Quezon. It's a little bit of a roughing-it type of an accomodation: hut, hammock, open-air-hollow-block bathroom. But Jay Herrera, the host and chef is a spontaneous and man-of-a-million-stories guy, and his meals are to die for. Very reasonable rates. You can then bird in the nearby waterfalls in a deep ravine. I posted this review of his place at Click the city: Wife and 2 kids stayed at Jay's Kinabuhayan. The man's an energizer bunny of stories, food, and fun! I have never met anyone with so much joie de vivre; he's infectious! Make sure to get him to talk anything about his colorful life and you'll be convinced life is a treasure.
Listen to his radio broadcasts from his studio (beside the kitchen!) which the town and neighboring communities can hear.
The P500 for the food is almost like stealing. My wife told Jay my comment "How does he make money serving all this food for so little?" to which Jay replied: "As if I care!"
Accomodations are genuine, unpretentious. Food is creative, exuberant and will make you forget whatever diet you're on. Trip to the falls is ethereal. But best of all is the company: Jay and his whole household (even his pets!), in their own natural selves, will make you celebrate life.Check it out at: www.klar.us/kinabuhayan_cafe/Or other accomodations at a cluster of places in teh San Pablo area called Viaje del Sol: guides.clickthecity.com/travel/?p=1612

Thanks folks for the comments. This will be the first time I'm going to do this sort of thing, and I'd be lying if I say I'm not somehow scared. I think I'd rather be exposed to the malaria-carrying mosquitoes in Palawan or brave the ravines of Halsema Highway than talk in front of intellectuals/environmentalists from the upper crust of our society. But somebody has to do the job of introducing the amazing beauty of our birds to the public. Who knows.... birdwatching or bird photography can become the next big craze. ;D
