Thank you, Doc. The light was courtesy of the setting afternoon sun; still a little harsh but it provided enough illumination to help me tame camera shake and freeze the subject which was in perpetual motion.

Nice docu, bro. It seems there are two OOF ETSs(?) on the foreground. Audience?

Hehehe, you can't seem to get enough of the "ugly" shrike.
The second version looks cooler (WB) than the first one.

Thanks, Edu. Here's the unprocessed uncropped full-frame for reference on my distance to the subject.

Hello birdnuts, My 40D's main dial seems to have become loose. When I turn the dial it doesn't make that clicking sound and the shutter speed doesn't change. A few more turning clockwise/counter-clockwise and it gets back to normal, then after a while it becomes loose again. Has anyone had the same problem? What could be the cause? Do I need to send it to Canon for servicing or are there "workarounds" for this? Would appreciate your inputs. Thanks in advance.

Thank you, Toto and Pao. Great capture there Mark. Every time I see this bird he is often too far and perched on vegetation at the bottom of a canal. So how close were you? The EXIF (intact) reports 11.5 meters, but as discussed in the following thread, this is most likely to be inaccurate. I can post the uncropped full-frame shot later (as I don't have access right now) to give you an idea.

I was processing my old files last night when I came across this capture which I initially dismissed as Grey Wagtail in honeymoon dress. But after rechecking my references I can't seem to match it to a breeding Grey Wagtail. There was no other candidate but Yellow Wagtail, and this was confirmed by the King of Bird Macro Neon. Thanks, Neon! The title is a line from the song Yellow by Coldplay. Yellow Wagtail ( Motacilla flava) UPLB, Laguna, 25 April 2010 40D, 400/5.6 L, ISO 400, f/5.6, 1/1250 sec, manual exposure, backpack as bean bag, cropped

Stunningly beautiful, Ka Mastah! I wish though that there's a slight headturn towards the camera and I got it a split second earlier. While we struggle to get good shots of birds at just about any pose or position, Ka Mastah's predicament is the missed split second and a few degrees of head turn.

Thanks for sharing, Ka Mastah. By the way I've been stuck with this dilemma lately: Is there a way for PS to warn you (on a per-channel basis) if your histogram lacks true blacks or whites? What I currently do is scan each level on both sides manually and check if there is one level with no pixels in it, which is kinda time-consuming. I don't fully trust what I just see on the histogram panels as there are cases where it looks like there are no pixels on a particular level but when you hover your mouse cursor you'll find that there are indeed pixels. I've tried fiddling around the menus but I can't seem to find it.

Nice job handholding that heavy artillery, Pao.
The first one looks like saying, "Oh no, what's that thing he's pointing on me???" ;D
