Since we (Aphine & Ixi) got rained out on the second day of birding in QNP we decided to head for San Juan, Batangas early. Tina and Wency headed home since Tina was not feeling well, hope you are now felling well Tina!!! We followed the advice of Propjerry to head for the open fields and look for the Black Drongo that was spotted there on a big Acacia Tree. On the way we were able to get a close shot of the Wood Sandpiper - 40D + 300 mm f4 IS + 1.4x Kenko TC (420mm), f 5.6, 1/640, ISO 200, Manual Exposure, Hand held, Inside Car to be continued....I'm off to Candaba!! Wooohooo!!

Love the composition on this Neon! I see that you're still trying to get that Drongo! Hopefully we'll catch that elusive bird one day!

Hello Neon! Why do birds always look away from the camera at exactly the right (or wrong) moment ? Well done for capturing the pic though! Thats a very close shot to have gotten from inside the car.

Yes, Martin...I still could not get that Black Drongo out of my mind. Anyway in my search for it I've captured this along the way. Blue-Tailed Bee-Eater - 40D + 300 mm f4 IS + 1.4x Kenko TC (420mm), f 5.6, 1/320, ISO 200, Manual Exposure

Thanks Bindi! You're asking why? My answer is, so that you can go birding again to get that perfect shot!! ;D Which I did and got this one a lot closer, but now the tail is missing. and you know what that means!!! another sortie to get the perfect shot!! Wood Sandpiper - 40D + 300 mm f4 IS + 1.4x Kenko TC (420mm), f 5.6, 1/500, ISO 200, Manual Exposure, Hand held, Inside Car

While Ixi, the “cow whisperer”, was getting some information on the Black Drongo’s whereabouts… 40D + 300 mm f4 IS + 1.4x Kenko TC (420mm), f 5.6, 1/320, ISO 200, Manual Exposure, Hand Held I was shooting this Richards Pipit. I was wondering why it was looking up? 40D + 300 mm f4 IS + 1.4x Kenko TC (420mm), f 5.6, 1/1000, ISO 200, Manual Exposure, Hand Held When suddenly Ixi (cow whisperer) called my attention on this flying raptor (Brhaminy Kite). And another one approaching from a distance. 40D + 300 mm f4 IS + 1.4x Kenko TC (420mm), f 5.6, 1/800, ISO 200, Manual Exposure, Hand Held 40D + 300 mm f4 IS + 1.4x Kenko TC (420mm), f 5.6, 1/2500, ISO 200, Manual Exposure, Hand Held No wonder the Pipit allowed me to approach it at a lot closer distance than usual as it was afraid to become “lunch” of this approaching raptor. 40D + 300 mm f4 IS + 1.4x Kenko TC (420mm), f 5.6, 1/800, ISO 200, Manual Exposure, Hand Held As the Falcon was getting farther out of camera range we were still following it and just be in awe of how graceful its flight was, then we noticed three pigeons following it and they seem to be taunting the Falcon. We started cheering for the Falcon to just go and attack the pigeons – then it happened!! With one looping movement the Falcon went for the pigeons, as it was chasing them we were shouting GO! GO! GO! GET THEM!!! 40D + 300 mm f4 IS + 1.4x Kenko TC (420mm), f 5.6, 1/2000, ISO 200, Manual Exposure, Hand Held It’s hard to put in to words what we just experienced as we had goose bumps after witnessing the event. And sorry no pictures as no one bothered to lift the cameras during this spectacle.

Wow Neon, that sounds like it was an incredible sight! Raptors are magnificent, the way they move with incredible speed. What were those pigeons thinking ? I'm impressed with your photos; nice detail with the close ups!. And thanks for throwing in the pic of the bee eater; I love bee eaters:)

Beautiful photo. But, Ixi! I think your lens dug into cow poop! Neon, great shots!!! Love the bee eater! You are really good! And Holy cow! I love, really, really love that capture of IXI. That kind of capture is the only billboard I will approve for EDSA/SLEX, and I will pull aside to watch it. I'd call it BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. Hmmm, you can sell that to the ad agencies promoting farm villages. But Ixi]s modelling fee is prime. And that smile, priceless. Neon, that, I'd say is one of your best shots other than birds. Congratulations model and shooter on the loose. te lyd

Hahahaha Lydia, you are too kind! The cow was the beauty! She was cute, she followed me... I wanted to bring her home!
I think she liked me because I saw that the rope on her face was too tight and I tried to loosen it. the skin under the rope was already rubbed raw.
That's me, cow, horse, dog, cat... animal whisperer...

Ohhhhhhhh Romy and Rey, you guys are just so sweet! That's why I love this group, nice people.... By the way, is this the proper place to post this question? I will be leaving this Friday to go to Sydney to be with my daughter and son-in-law. I will be there a month. Can someone point me to nice places to go birding? I know there are a LOT of nice places and birds there. My daughter says her garden alone is full of birds! Will I be able to meet some of our Australian friends who are members in this forum??? ix!

Centennial Park in the city near the Opera House is a good place to go, lot's of friendly birds which will assure you of some nice full frame captures. And yes that's true, every backyard is a potential birding place. The birds there are not as elusive because they don't get hurt unlike here in our country where people can sometimes get so cruel. Bindi by the way is from Sydney, guess you can PM her.
