Also came back to Subic to get a better shot of this birdie. Wonder why it's called white-bellied when it's actually yellow. White-Bellied Woodpecker. (Dryocopus javensis) 40D+EF400mm@400mm,F6.3,1/640,ISO200,Gimbal Support

My bad, maybe I was thinking of my pet Waterhen. ;D Anyway thanks a lot for the heads-up Idol. I'll make the corrections right up.

Congrats, Rey.... I'm putting up this brilliant capture as our next FBPOTW (March 18 - 24), if ok with you. Please post date of capture, so I can complete the shooting data already posted. BTW, the photo is already great as presented, but allow me to mention some nits.... Just wondering if you shot in RAW? The blue sky is a bit overcooked on the blue channel, and the belly is hottish, both might be recoverable in RAW. Composition and sharpening are very subjective areas - I'd frame as you did, showing the whole tree trunk, and I'd probably add a dash more USM.

I'll be very glad to PP this excellent capture, Rey! The 40D's RAW file is too large to attach in my yahoo email, but you can send it via free sites that allow large files. Here's my preferred site, registration is free: www.yousendit.com/Romy

Nice one Rey. It really is a money shot! I thought I was not able to get a decent shot of this bird. Luckily, I was able to salvage some. Here's a couple of them.

Ok, I got Rey's RAW file and here's my take on this capture. Seeing that it was taken under an 8 am sun, I used a daylight WB. The yellow belly is far off the scale and it required major surgery. I converted twice, one for the belly and the other for the rest of the photo, then blended these in PS. 1. Web presentation (I went for a vertical crop because of the OOF clutter in the BG at the upper right of the bird). 2. Resized full frame 3. Processed 100% crop

With more sorties and tips from you guys, I'm sure I'll make headway with my bird and wildlife photography! @ Martin - Thanks sir. I'm using a Canon EF 300mm with 2 x 1.4 TC (Canon & Kenko) @romy - Sir, that's a great PP you made on Rey's photo. I hope you can share some of your PS tecniques with us.

Here's another angle where the belly is more prominent.
