Yup.... good price, should be between PHP 80K - 85K in our islands on release. Here's some sweet, metallic music from the 7D. ;D

I hope the dual Digic4 will improve ISO noise and IQ. From the initial samples, it appears that the 7D's high ISO performance is a bit better than the 50D, but not quite as good as the 5D2. This is actually remarkable because the 7D's pixels are smaller than the 50D's.

To be fair, the D300 with its pro-level AF has been enjoyed by Nikon shooters for over two years now. I can still remember when the D300 was newly introduced and Ray Barlow and I were shooting BIFs at Candaba. My 40D was very new then, and I couldn't get it to catch the BIFs with the 500 f4 + 1.4x! Meantime, Ray was busy getting keepers with his D300 + 200-400 VR. I had to mount my 1D2 to be able to keep up with Ray. Competition is great, and I'm sure Nikon engineers are now busy cooking up the D400 that might leapfrog the 7D. For long glass owners like us, we're basically married to our system. The local long glass market isn't as good as in the US, hence a divorce with one's current system is tough to execute. If a current body is better specced at the other side of the fence, we have no choice but to wait for the next new DSLR in our system. ;D

I am impressed with the pixel density which is almost double that of the 40d. So the crops on that must be phenomenal. Maybe the 1D3 replacement will have ISO noise and IQ equal or rivaling the 5D2 by Feb 2010? Do you think Canon will lend out prototypes to photojournos for the Winter Games?

They used to be the leader during 2003-2004 but for the past two years it was one K.O. after another from Nikon. Fair enough Canon adjusted the price to compensate but still! But now Canon is a step up but just a step. I hope the IQ and ISO noise will best the Nikon equivalent. I'm agnostic with camera systems. What bothers me is the fact that it isn't Nikon Inc that will handle my service concern here. Also I find it weird that the distributor would block my exit from a room I am being asked to vacate.

To be fair, the D300 with its pro-level AF has been enjoyed by Nikon shooters for over two years now. Quite true. Last weekend was my first time to really experience Canon and on the field, I really had a hard time adjusting with the AF of 50D. The system Ihave now seems to have problems focusing on small dark/black objects like a bushchat or a pied fantail. AF is locked but I get blurry images. I never had this problem with my D300. AF point selection is years behind that of D300. Body-wise, from D300 to 50D, I can say it is a downgrade for me. But with the 400mm f5.6 around, I dont care if its a downgrade. What I know now is that the IQ of my bird shots have improved significantly. 7D's specs is formidable and can go head on against D300s. How I wish the rumored dual media (CF/SD) were true. I am hoping to get my hands on this machine when the smoke clears and prices have gone down a bit

Just curious, won't the 7D cannibalize the 5D2? Looking at the specs alone, save for the sensor size (better IQ and noise control, good ol' 35mm perspective to some), pixel count -- which isn't that much difference, and perhaps for bragging rights that my camera is full-frame ;D, the 7D seems to get all the stars. Magnesium body, weather sealing?, video, lower price, and it can spit twice the amount of frames the 5D2 can. Now if this can deliver IQ not far from that of the 5D2... What do you guys think? Also interesting to see Canon can crunch more pixels into the APS-C and still improve high ISO performance (at least compared to 50D).
