"Also interesting to see Canon can crunch more pixels into the APS-C and still improve high ISO performance (at least compared to 50D."
This, I think, is the most important question. Could it be that Canon did develop a new sensor, crammed it with all those pixels, but then relied on firmware to clear/clean things up? Amazing really, how they can fit so many photosites (with AMPS) in such a small piece of silicon. What about heat transmission? Those pixels must be shoulder to shoulder and heat will easily be generated in such an environment.
We'll have to wait and see. I think wait for a couple or so of months and see... :-)

I think its a very cool camera for bird videos. The 1.6 crop plus the video features, external mic.
I also wonder about the noise issue.
Personally I want a 500mm or 600mm lens first. Hehe. I think the kidney sale and the instant noodle regimen plus the Santa Claus effect will still put me in a deficit.

Wow.... the 7D has even less noise than the 40D at the RAW level!!! Can't wait to have my hands on this speed demon. Gabor, who is respected by many at DPR (including me) as far as RAW analysis is concerned, has posted this: ___________________________________ Note: I am talking about the RAW images.
The 7D is excellent in the noise department.
The "read noise" on pixel level is equal to or slightly lower than the 40D and 50D with ISO 100 and 200. From ISO 400 the 7D is somewhat better, and ISO 3200 (the top useful ISO of the 7D with raw) is quite better than the 40D.
All that is with 80% more pixels.
However, there is no question: this is far from the 5D2. Pixel (sensel) size does matter.

Assuming Canon doesnt update their firmware for the 5d2 it could possible cannibalize sales. But people who buy a 5d2 know full frame is full frame and it does have better IQ than any crop.

Hehe... since both you and Sylvia shoot birds, you can have up to two kidneys to sell. That and the instant noodles and you might be within striking distance of a 7D + 500 f4 IS!

There's was no opportunity to test it to its limits because of the bad weather. Rather than set a new date with the beta 7D, it will be better if we just wait for a production model.... these are to be available in at most a couple of weeks anyway.

In the same forum there was a thread about a store accepting reservations for the 7D priced at around Php 84k-89k. I almost called the store! Then I saw this quote Me too!

I guess we have to wait till production units get into the hands of BIF shooters..... some of these have been delivered in many parts of the world now.
