These are shots from my Mom’s garden. I often have my brother or Mom as assistants in taking shots of these bugs. Either they keep the bugs from flying or they help in focusing a led flashlight. I have no external or macro flashes. I also use a magnifying glass to enlarge the bugs a bit, since I don’t have a macro lens or extension tube. I used Nikon D5000 and my 18-55mm kit lens on these shots and post-processed them using the View NX and GIMP software. 55mm, f/8, 1/200 sec., ISO-200 55mm, f/6.3, 1/80 sec., ISO-400 50mm, f/5.6, 1/200 sec., ISO-250 46mm, f/5.6, 1/60 sec, ISO-400

this is just one of my favorite shots and probably one of the best shots i have using my nikkor af 70-300m g lens.
photo was taken using nikon d5000 and the abovementioned lens at 250mm, 1/500 sec., iso-800 and +0.3 exposure compensation.
i was so fascinated with this bird because they are so hardworking. i was able to observed this bird for three day just at our backyard. i was able to observe behavioral patterns like:
1. two birds will work on one hole. 2. one bird will work for about 30 minutes or so, except for one occasion wherein one bird really pecked for more than an hour, while the other is looking for food (i think). 3. a bird would knock on the wood about 10 times, signalling for a replacement. 4. before the substitute would peck into the hole, s/he would look around first.
i wish i could post a set here but i don't know how. could someone guide me how to post a set of photos? thanks!

hello, everyone!
i'm mark jason argallon from quezon city. i'm so inspired by what i see here in the board. i'm just a hobbyist. i started taking pictures of flowers and bugs in my mom's garden. then i got interested with birds. my gear is an entry level nikon d5000 and i use nikkor af 70-300mm that doesn't auto-focus in my camera body, which makes it more difficult and challenging to shoot birds.
i decided just a few weeks ago to buy a sigma 150-500mm and i'm basically more satisfied with my shots. i'm excited to learn from more experienced photographers here. thanks to sir romy for creating this one!

i used nikon d5000 and i got to video a philippine pygmy woodpecker at 720p. however, since it is in wide format, once i edit it using windows movie maker, it is stretched vertically. are there free software that can be used to edit my videos and is there a way to reduce the size so that it could be uploaded here? thanks!

Hello! It's my first time to post here. I need to know what bird this is. I posted this in the WBCP Facebook Fan Page but gained no response. It appears to be a young yellow-vented bulbul but I have not seen the vent to directly say it is one.
