These are shots from my Mom’s garden. I often have my brother or Mom as assistants in taking shots of these bugs. Either they keep the bugs from flying or they help in focusing a led flashlight. I have no external or macro flashes. I also use a magnifying glass to enlarge the bugs a bit, since I don’t have a macro lens or extension tube. I used Nikon D5000 and my 18-55mm kit lens on these shots and post-processed them using the View NX and GIMP software. 55mm, f/8, 1/200 sec., ISO-200 55mm, f/6.3, 1/80 sec., ISO-400 50mm, f/5.6, 1/200 sec., ISO-250 46mm, f/5.6, 1/60 sec, ISO-400

Hmmmm, this is so cool. Your shots are great, and I am scratching my head how you can come so close to the wasp, especially. I wonder how it would be with butterflies. Magnifying glass... I may not have a need for my 105mm 2.8 anymore to shoot caterpillars. telyds

thanks, ate lydia, for appreciating! i think i got the idea from another photography forum. i was researching about macro photography when i stumbled upon this idea. just a warning if you would try. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Those are great shots especially when you are not even using a Macro lens. Thank you for sharing this as it will encourage other people to try to do the same thing without using a macro lens. Well done Mark & Mabuhay.
