Took these in Subic last May 22, 2008. It's a very noisy bird but quite hard to see coz it was hiding under the shade of some plants. Was able to take a recording but don't know how to post sound files ;D Forgive me for the poor capture but this bird was kinda far and in a dark area.

WOW I thought it was a Koel because of the loud sound that it was making Ko-el ko-el ko-el - HehHEheEHheE but wasn't sure so I posted it here just to be sure. In the very, very short time that Wency and I went birding during this trip, I had 2 photo lifers, this one and a female red junglefowl - both rotten captures though Thanks Neon for the help in identifying this bird.

Yes, it is strange there are not more photos of this bird in Phils. It should not be that uncommon.

Just got lucky with this photo. I stopped on that particular part of the road only because there was a fallen tree across the road and was thinking if I should try to pass or not. While thinking my mind away this bird kept on calling out so I looked and looked until I saw it under a tree singing or calling it's heart out

Congrats Tina. I'm not sure if this is the same bird I saw when we went to Subic last month. He's black and yes he's making a loud scream like sound. I took some photos but came out poor with my 250mm lens.
