posting this here since Steve and Des seem to have different opinions regarding this poorly taken bird photo. Maybe one day somebody will capture a nicer photo and I will finally be able to name it properly. These were taken in Sta.Cruz, Zambales area last Nov.03, 2007 Thanks Steve and Des

Tina, according to my astute observation, based on the gravity of the moon, the speed of the wind blowing at that time, and the price of Bagoong prevailing, I'd say that's a Philippine Dodo Bird. :-) Bwahahahaha.
I hpe someone can be more definite about this bird's ID. Very interesting-looking. :-)

That looks like a female Cinnamon Bittern to me, Tina. I've seen both Yellow and Cinnamon Bitterns "raise" their head feathers when they get excited. Not 100% sure on the ID though, and I'd defer to Des or Steve. Here's one I got at Macabebe a couple of years ago: Romy

Master Romy, that photo of yours seems to settle the matter for me! Yep, it IS a Cinnamon Bittern! Great photos almost always settle an issue. :-)

The angle is tough for me, and he has more field experience with this bird, and he is sure about his ID, and I am not.
