I was walking around our place in Batangas this morning when I saw a tiny Philippine Pygmy Woodpecker pecking at a tree and getting his breakfast. A Eurasian Tree Sparrow was watching and started inching closer and closer. It seemed intent on getting some of the bugs the woodpecker was pecking loose from the tree. I had my small lens with me and I got to photograph their little fight. Part one the sparrow is inching closer Part two the sparrow tries to grab the bug and the woodpecker reacts. Bits of woodchips flying around. Part three the sparrow retreats. Canon 5dmk3, 70-300L, 1/2500, f6.3, ISO 640

A rare kind of bird entertainment and an opportunity for bird photographer. Well done Tonji & Mabuhay.

Thanks Ely, sometimes we don't have to travel far to get entertained. This was just beside our cottage. I see these birds every morning. But I have never seen ets try to poach some bugs.

Thanks Mark. I like walking around with my compact 70-300. It works quite well. I do hope the new 100-400L rumored to come out has the same design.
