a revisit to this subject. only because my field engineer who i encouraged to shoot birds bought a nikon p9? with a power zoom of 84x!!!!! i tried shooting at subjects 40meters away, at 60x, and not bad at all. of course the iQ is not comparable to fixed bigger lenses, but with untrained eyes and for documentary purposes, it's one heluva camera.
made me think of buying one for documentation and light-on-the-bag unit for frequent island hoppers.

Nice to see you again, Ka Rene! Yes, for non-flying birds, the superzooms of Canon and Nikon are very good birding cameras, both for stills and video. In good light and if shooting RAW, image quality approaches that of DSLRs.
