Hi, Good Day! I'm not sure if this is the right category of my post but I just want to ask if it's okay i will use Off lotion for mosquito into my body while spotting and bird watching? Birds cannot smell the odor of the lotion? I know it's kinda weird question but I always go out for bird watching and i always distracted by mosquito's.

I have no idea if the bird can smell the off lotion. But I use off in the field to protect myself from insect bites. Your welfare first then birds in my opinion. Birds won't care if you catch dengue.

I suggest you switch to citronella... organic. Human Nature has good products. I guess wildlife will not shy away from organic herbal concoctions. It is even good for your skin than chemicals telyds

I use OFF as well. However, I like the spritzer type and not the cream or lotion. I also bring a small spritzer with alcohol for leeches.

i agree with telyds and i thank her for this good advice and reminder. citronella, like many other similar herbal extracts, works and it is good for you as well. only problem is when profuse sweating under very humid conditions washes the material off. i once tried smoking a cigarette, when i was still a smoker, to ward off mosquitoes while in the bushes waiting for a bird to show up with grub for its young. it just took off the moment it got wind of the smoke. maybe the birds associated the smoke with people. of course they were right. and i still got my nasty bites all over. probably serves me right.
i suspect this carelessness (about forgetting to bring and apply anti-mosquito) was the cause of my nasty bout with dengue early last year. aside from this object lesson, i got forced by my doctors to quit the habit cold turkey fashion. i'd say, my birding was better after. and healthier.

I read in an old issue of NatGeo magazine of a London orchidologist spraying cologne on his cattleyas to attract Sunbirds/Hummingbirds to his garden. Perhaps, Ate Lyds suggestion of citronella (stronger aroma) should be good. Ate Lyds, maybe your citronella has attracted butterflies to you!

I also use Astring-o-sol or Listerine to ward off mosquitos. It smells better and it is not sticky. You can also try it, it works! I actually prefer it over Citronella lyd
