Wency and I were supposed to go to Candaba really early last Sunday. I set my alarm to go off twice, one at 3:00 a.m and the other at 4:00 since we were planning to leave at 4:30 a.m. First alarm goes up. Woooo I'm really excited to go birding so up I go. Did my usual morning stuff. Checked my gears again and hmmm it's only 3:40 am. I looked at my husband in bed and didn't want to wake him up so I decided to just wait in bed for the 4 a.m alarm. I fell asleep and r-i-i-i-n-g-g-g-g-g (don't know how to write down the sound of the alarm) it's 4 a.m !!! Turned it off and faced Wency who was half asleep and then we both smiled at each other and said... Let's go back to sleep. And so we did. ;D When we woke up, we agreed that after lunch we will still go to Candaba. We left the house at around 1:30 and got to Candaba 2 hours after. 40D + 500mm f4 ; f/5.0 ; ISO 250 ; 1/1250-1600 ; Used a bean bag on top of the car window for support. Note: Light was very bad. The birds were all backlit/backlighted coz the afternoon sun was on my side. Had to ask for help from Mr. Photoshop to put some light in front of the birds so the faces can be seen. I was taking an almost full frame shot of this bird... Chestnut MuniaAll of a sudden, I noticed a head peeping up from the bushes... Clamorous Reed Warbler how I wish that blade of grass in front of the bird wasn't there. Then it shooed away the chestnut munia and went up the reeds and posed for me while singing it's heart out every now and then. Clamorous Reed Warbler full frame so didn't have a chance to compose my photo.Click HERE to see more photos from this afternoon sortie. Thanks

This time we will surely wake up early. Had to go to a wake for 3 straight days so by the time Saturday came... we were both tired. Thanks Mike.

Thank you Tonj.
The skylark was my first photo there. Saw it at the start of the road palang going to the wetlands. It stayed and posed for me for a long time. Had to hand hold the 500mm because I was scared na it would fly away kaagad.
It kept on having it's picture taken and I was getting so tired from carrying the 500mm so decided to get the tripod and it stayed through all noise and setting up the tripod and then after I put my camera on the tripod.... IT FLEW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! grrrrrr !!! HAhahAhahA

Lovely shots. So many of the Clamorous that we ringed at Candaba had diseased feet, probably caused by pesticide use. this bird looks OK I am glad to see

Thank you so much for the nice comments Sylvia : Glad you found it cute. I had many shots of this munia but this one was the one that caught my attention because of the position of the wings. I think this is going to be one of my favorites. Des : I've been noticing that too. Most of them have at least one foot that is not normal. I think this is my first capture of a clamorous reed warbler without a "diseased" foot. Mick : Wish I were as good a photographer as you though. I need more practice. Mark : Wow you haven't been to Candaba yet !!!! But why? Are you super busy with work or something? You should really go there.

yes, i have never been in candaba. i just commute. if i have my own car, i would have been there several times. if there are WBCP birding trips there, it's scheduled on sundays that conflicts with my church schedule.
i did plan to commute last month but since i don't have someone to go with me, laziness got the best of me.

Ohhhh hard nga to go there without a vehicle. Sige one time let's plan a trip there and you can hitch with one of us. Kaso most of the time we go during the weekday naman. Are you free weekdays if we plan a trip there sometime soon.
When I go on weekends kasi, I have my boyfriend (ay husband pala), Wency, with me who sleeps at the back of the car while my gear stays in front at the passenger side with me. Fully loaded lagi ;D
I hope and pray that we get to bring you to Candaba soon with us Mark. I know you will enjoy it there.

I love all three pictures Tina. Fine details and clear eyes. Alas, I missed the Reed Warbler when I last went there. Now there's a reason to go back.

Thank you Prop Tirso. Yes, there's always a reason to go back to Candaba even if we live so far from this place. Going there is always a special treat
