Birding in Costa Rica can bring a lot of surprises. Locally known as "patitas amarillas", this Yellow-thighed Finch just came out of nowhere while I was busy taking pictures of some other birds. The bird was so quick that I was able to take only few shots then the bird flew away immediately. It is nice to see those yellow feathers from its thigh that look like pompoms Taken last week from San Gerardo de Dota at an altitude of about 2600 mts ASL. 7D, 400mm f/5.6L lens, 1/125s, f/6.3, ISO 200, Manfrotto Trippod+GH

What a glamorous looking bird. Perfect settings. All black with yellow poms poms on the thigh plus the red eye make it that much more attractive. Well done Ariel & Mabuhay.
