A spur of the moment decision to go to Siquijor resulted in my getting two lifers! Streak-breasted Bulbul 5DMkII, 300mm+1.4X, handheld, 1/500, f5.6, ISO 3200, Tv priority Yellow-bellied Whistler 5DMkII, 300mm+1.4X, handheld, 1/400, f5.6, ISo-3200, Tv priority See the story at: ornithographer.blogspot.com/2012/01/return-to-dumaguete-day-1-boat-for-best.html

Interesting to see the pale upper eye crescent, the compressed nostril and the slightly rusty collar on the bulbul.

By the way, your Orange-bellied Flowerpecker is a Siquijor endemic ssp besti, as is your Yellow-bellied Whistler ssp siquijorensis

Great captures, Bob! Congrats on the 2 lifers which I have yet to see!
I went to the same mountain and forest camp in Siquijor several years ago, but only saw Blue-Tailed Bee-eaters, Coletos and an unidentifed Pitta.

Congratulations on your lifers. I have not seen them yet. The Streak-breasted Bulbul looks like a combination of the Yellow-vented Bulbul and the Philippine Bulbul. The Yellow-bellied Whistler looks like a large Golden-bellied Flycatcher. Well done Bob and Mabuhay.

Thanks, Ely. My first thought when I saw the Whistler was "Wow, what a big Gerygone!" ;D

Thanks, Doc BoyMac! Pure luck that we got these endemics. We didn't have much time to bird the place.
