A two-day visit to my hometown this weekend of Feb. 18 and 19 gave me the opportunity to grab some snapshots of folks playing with the surf at nearby San Juan beach (La Union). The waves were far from impressively large, but a few young kids strutted their skills.... amazing to witness these pint-sized waveriders do their stuff. Here are a few captures I've processed so far, all at San Juan, La Union, on February 19th, 1D4 + 500 f4 IS + 1.4x TC, 475B/516 support, manual exposure. 1/2000s f/6.3 at 700.0mm iso400 1/1600s f/6.3 at 700.0mm iso400 1/1600s f/6.3 at 700.0mm iso400 SUN MEETS THE SOUTH CHINA SEA. The setting sun, sporting a couple of sunspots, touches the western horizon after dispensing golden light to waveriders. Shooting info - San Juan, La Union, Philippines, February 19, 2011, 7D + 500 f4 IS + stacked 2x/1.4x TC, 1400 mm, f/16, 1/400 sec, ISO 100, manual exposure, 475B/516 support, single exposure, no filters.

Fantastic imagery Mastah Romy. These boys look so lifelike and really pops out, it appears to be jumping out of the screen. By the way, is the workflow the same with your avian captures?

Thanks, Rey!
I use a slightly different PP wokflow for people shots - smaller radius USM for smoother skin textures, as opposed to larger radius USM for feather detail.
Capture technique is the same as BIFs though.

the sunset shot looks like an exploding atomic bomb... not that i've witnessed one... hehehe... cheers! Hehehe.... this really looks like one. It would appear as if an H-Bomb has exploded to the west in this shot taken just as the setting sun touched the horizon, about 17 minutes earlier than the first posted photo. Shooting info - San Juan, La Union, Philippines, February 19, 2011, 7D + 500 f4 IS + stacked 2x/1.4x TC, 1400 mm, f/16, 1/400 sec, ISO 200, manual exposure, 475B/516 support, single exposure, no filters, uncropped full frame resized to 1200x800.

A split second after the first posted photo, the 1D4's AI servo remained locked on the surfer and 10 fps did its job of presenting me an alternative shot. Shooting info - San Juan, La Union, Philippines, February 19, 2011, 1D4 + 500 f4 IS + 1.4x TC, f/6.3, 1/2000 sec, ISO 400, manual exposure, 475B/516 support
