Hi Romy. I have two pictures here of the Pied Bushchat. They both look good to me. I know that there are a lot of things that I don't know that will make these pictures look better. Would you kindly critique these two pictures so that I will learn to know what a really good picture looks like?

Detail, brighness and exposure are great in both.
I wish for more DOF..... posting these larger than lifesize accentuates the narrowness of the DOF.
A matter of personal taste, but I'd boost the colors and contrast a bit more.
I'd also tone down the very bright perch of the first.

Thank you Romy for your objective assessment. I still have to familiarize myself with what makes the picture correct in the sense that it is more pleasing to the eye. Your experience with birds give me the confidence to take your word for it. I believe that if I continue to listen to you I will come out with better pictures. I have reprocess these two pictures in the hope that I will learn to do what is basically correct. Your critique please.

Looking better Ely, especially the perch!
The blacks are a bit overdone for my taste..... perhaps back off a bit to halfway between the original and second versions.

Ah ha. I am getting bold with my fingers on the levels. Is this for both pictures or just the black bird?

It's for both, Ely.
The dark leading edge of the female's wing has lost the shadow detail.

I have to keep trying otherwise I am wasting my time and your time if I don't strive to improve on my PP. I know that its a matter of taste but when it comes to birds, I trust your judgement more. Here is the new set of birds which I think is now better than before. Please critique.
