Birds with white feathers has a tendency to be overexposed while the other colors are okay. Could you please suggest a solution to solving this perennial problem?

Excellent composition, colors, detail and background Ely!
The white collar seems to be not blown too severely, so this can be recovered in RAW conversion easily. I see that you used 1/1000 sec, f/8 and ISO 800. I agree on the Av to get more DOF, but I'd probably shot at 1/250 sec and ISO 200. This would yield a wider dynamic range than ISO 800 - the highlights will be easier to recover and I can push the shadows more without excessive noise.

Wow that was a simple solution to a problem that I encounter so often. I have to learn to be calm and not get excited when I encounter situations like when the bird landed right in front of me while I was taking the picture of another bird. I have come to realize why my ISO is higher than normal. I start out early in the morning and sometimes my ISO is as high as 3200 but more often I start at 1600 as there is not enough light to shoot at 1/100 sec. As the light improves I lower my ISO once I see that my speed goes beyond 1/400 sec. I guess when the bird landed so near I did not have the presence of mind to change the settings and just started shooting when I got him focused. Thank you again Romy for your valuable lesson.
