Hi Guys.Im am new here.Been following your website for ages though. Guys how can I photograph small birds(like barbets,robins enc)in flight?I use a Canon 50D,Bigma lens.
Do u MF on a place and fire away as they fly past?Whats your guys secrets?Romy u have any ideas,tips for me?ZWill never be able to pan with the small birds.They are too fast..

Get the best autofocusing DSLR you can afford, a 400 5.6 L or 300 f4 prime lens, then practice a lot. The topic is too broad to cover in a thread, but if you have specific questions on small BIF shooting, I'll be glad to answer such.

I use a Canon 7D with EF500mm f/4 lens. I do have a TC1.4x as well. The problem is that the small birds are so fast that before I am able to see them in my view finder they are gone...How do I handle that??....
