What can be the cause of my shutter button not firing at times? When I change settings, it sometimes works. But many times, I'd have the right settings and it still won't shoot fast enough or not shoot at all. Can someone please say what's wrong and what the solution is. telyds

It could be that you are using One-shot Autofocus. Try turning off the AF on your lens and use manual focusing. You don't have to focus on anything, but just press the shutter button. It should fire without hesitation. If the camera still does not fire immediately, you may have a defective shutter switch. Hope this helps! :-)

TeLyds, try Bobby suggestion to shoot in MF mode. The only way firing will be delayed is when the lens is set to AF and hasn't locked focus yet. If the shutter still hesitates to fire even when the lens is switched to MF, then it's time to replace your shutter button. A shutter button can wear out in time and is a common occurence in xxD and xxxD cameras. This is characterized by unpredictable firing/no firing, and can result into lost shots at the decisive moment. I suggest you call Canon Service and inquire on the cost (not too stiff when I replaced my 300D's) and turnaround of replacing the shutter button. Here's the new Canon Service contact info: www2.canon.com.ph/clubeos/academy-articles.php?id=46When you bring your camera to Canon service, ask them to perform the following services too (these are often done for free or for very little cost): 1. Upgrade to latest firmware (if yours has an old firmware) 2. Clean the focusing screen/viewfinder 3. Clean the sensor.

Telyds, i had the same problem on my 40D, 2 months ago, either i need to press harder or longer, to make it work, i have a remote shutter switch, tested it and camera works OK, that's when i concluded, my shutter button is not working, so decided to bring in for repair here in Canon SG, got it back after 3 days , good as new. (cost almost 3K in ph peso) regards, Edwin

Or maybe your CF card is still not done saving your shots on the CF card. That happens to me sometimes when I am excited and press the shutter like crazy. All of a sudden it won't fire nalang - HehEhehEhe

My 2 camera bodies (1DSMk2 and 7D) had an on and off non-firing/ shutter stuck issue with my 100-400 IS lens, apparently a common problem. I sent it in for inspection a week ago and was told that the IS mechanism needs to be replaced. Not bad really after around 4 years of moderate to heavy use.
Maybe it's your lens?
P.S. Why is the brown shrike "the bad bird"? I still don't know (referring to your reply to my first post - Brown shrike preening ...).
