Just sharing some backup blues, as I'm sure every birdnut will run into his own set of data handling challenges sooner or later in this age of high MP RAWs and 1080p HD video. I'm now into my second day of reorganizing and juggling my tons of photos - about 2.05 TB worth of unique data. For better archiving, I need to move around 3/4 of that, or roughly 1.5 TB of disk-to-disk data transfer. My HDD-HDD transfer speed for USB 2.0 averages at roughly 1 GB/min in my machine, so transferring 1500 GB of data will take about 25 hours of computer time. If all goes well, I'll be able to finish this tomorrow night . Ahhhhh..... the things we need to do as a consequence of avian lunacy! My Data System: ____________________________________ External HDD:2 @ 1500 GB = 3.0 TB 2 @ 1000 GB = 2.0 TB 3 @ 500 GB = 1.5 TB 2 @ 320 GB = 0.64 TB Total External HDD = 7.14 TB Internal HDD3 @ 320 GB = 0.96 TB Total Data HDD = 8.1 TB, excluding a system internal HDD of 320 GB. Free/Unused Space = ca. 4 TB Size of Unique Data = ca. 2.05 TB/set (2 sets - 1 working files + 1 back up) ____________________________________
