Great to see you around here, Ed! Samar is virtually unexplored bird photo-wise, so you'll have some exciting opportunities to capture Samar rarities when you get home. Meantime, we have a board for "Birds from around the world" where you can post avian pics from the Middle East.

Thank you sir Romy. I do have some bird photos but my equipment is just entry level. I will be posting though, just to show you the avians that we have here. Regretfully, Samar is still unsafe for exploration. Again thank you.
Sir Pao, thank you sa welcome. I grew up in Catbalogan but also lived in Mercedes near Guiuan as my father is from there. It would be nice to organize a protection group there because I grew up with tiradors and escopitas as a common tool for young boys. Maybe some day. I have not been there for 13 years.

Welcome ED. This forum provides space for other nature images like butterflies. Most bird photographers in the forum who are my dear friends take time to shoot butterflies when there are no predators in sight. My introduction to butterfly watching in the Philippines was from my mentor from Hong Kong who visited Guiuan in 1999. Go to the www.hkls.org website. Click the Activities and Events in the menu and choose Overseas Trips. At the bottom of the list, which was actually the first activity of the Hong KOng club, is a report about their trip to Guiuan. There you will read the start of my addiction to butterfly photography. I have become a birdnut because there is no other butterflynut in the Philippines who I can go with to chase butterflies. That is why I have a bias with forest birds. One hardly sees butterflies in the coastal and swampy areas. I hope that you will also be on the lookout for butterflies in all stages. Macro photography is also great! I will look forward to your posts. If you are below 40, you can call me telyds.

Hello Lyds, I think I am older than you. I am 51. Just turned. Tumawad pa ei ano? . I have read it many years back na, but I will visit the site again just to see what is new. The biggest butterfly in the Guiuan area is the "kakanog". Maybe a moth really as we usually see it at night. I also have some macros using third party lenses. I am still saving for a better camera and lenses. I am new to this so let me learn from you. Ate. . Thank you sa welcome. Ed
