just want to share what happened to my gears. well, after pulling it from my bag (i'm in a hurry) because of a lifer (sana ) then it slips from my hands and fell down on a cement floor. still lucky because the glass did not broke up and only the hood of the lens had the first impact. it was dented and i cannot retract it anymore , may be it was misaligned and cannot cover it with a lens cap. i have a question, can this be repaired by Canon? and while it's not being repaired, is it ok to put it in my bag without a lens cap? (cannot do anything) any suggestions guys? thanks

Too bad to hear that, Den.
If it's only the hood that's damaged, it's an easy repair. Bring it to Canon service for evaluation, and if the hood still needs to be ordered, bring home your lens for the meantime so you can still use it while waiting for the part. As it is now, you can use a shower cap or even a condom to keep the dust out when you store it.

Thank you for advise Mastah. I think it's really the hood that is damage. One thing also proves me is that, canon lens are tough as it fell from my waist high down to the floor.

Too bad too cool bro! Too bad as it happened and too cool to know that we invested on the right stuff and (though painful) now you have a story to tell and brag. it fell and you still have it all working. The damage in the hood is a minor setback. The more important thing is that the lens is still in tip top condition. Hopefully the hood can be replaced. As mastah have said, put a condom on it so it doesnt get infected with dust.
