I just want to share pictures of my recent sortie in Mt. Kitanglad, Bukidnon, Mindanao. I went there as advanced party for a visiting birder couple and was able to squeeze in some birding time while setting up the tent, organizing logistics and arranging provisions. Got lucky: 4 out of 4 days we saw THE eagle, good views of the parrotfinch and superb birding around the camp and in the forest trails. I can still remember the adrenalin rush and goosebumps whenever we see the eagle. I want to go back soon! Red-eared Parrotfinch Canon 350D, 300 F4L + 1.4x Kenko TC (420 mm) 1/250, F5.6, ISO 400, Manual Exposure And a few docu shots of the following birds: The Great Philippine Eagle Canon 350D, 300 F4L + 1.4x Kenko TC (420 mm) 1/1600, F5.6, ISO 200, Manual Exposure Mountain Verditer Flycatcher (Mindanao race) Canon 350D, 300 F4L + 1.4x Kenko TC (420 mm) 1/250, F5.6, ISO 400, Manual Exposure Grey-hooded Sunbird Canon 350D, 300 F4L + 1.4x Kenko TC (420 mm) 1/640, F5.6, ISO 400, Manual Exposure Black and Cinnamon Fantail Canon 350D, 300 F4L + 1.4x Kenko TC (420 mm) 1/250, F5.6, ISO 800, Manual Exposure Mugimaki Flycatcher Canon 350D, 300 F4L + 1.4x Kenko TC (420 mm) 1/60, F5.6, ISO 400, Manual Exposure Stripe-breasted Rhabdornis Canon 350D, 300 F4L + 1.4x Kenko TC (420 mm) 1/1600, F5.6, ISO 200, Manual Exposure Thanks for looking! Wowowow! Amazing shots Adri! The Parrotfinch seems to have been elsewhere than their usual flower patch, whereabouts did you find this beauty? Close encounters with the Great Philippine Eagle are always guaranteed to elicit some kind of physical reaction. In my case, I was shivering after...smiling all the while. You guys were lucky as Tim's next group failed to see our national bird.

All very nice but my favorite is the Red-eared Parrotfinch. Birds are just like us, they love to eat. Well done Adri. Mabuhay.

Many thanks Ralf, Rey, Mastah Romy, Ivan and Ely. Yes, when the sked at the lodge clears up let's go up Kitanglad. Ivan - yes, the parrotfinches are not in their usual patches. Those patches are gone. I was lucky to see two near the bend where its always muddy after the Falcata trees while waiting for the mountain tailorbird. Its unfortunate that Tim's group missed the eagle; Alex Tiongco and I were just in the lodge while I got this shot. Tim's group when we were there had to walk 3 hours, wait for 5 hours in the view point just to see the eagle. Got very lucky i guess. The next day we saw it again in camp. Hehe.
