Horses in a Gallop with the 1D Mark IV

For almost two weeks I have been fiddling around with the 1D Mark IV at home trying to relate how "this" feature applies to "that" situation. Last Sunday I was able to use it with at a polo game. Subject distance would be about 75 to 150 meters.

Photos below used Auto ISO with 0 exposure bias. I can say with all honesty that I will be using Auto ISO more often than before especially with other bodies as well. Photos were not Photoshopped but went through an Apple Aperture RAW workflow.

Congrats on your new toy, Paolo.... looks like AF and color rendition are great ! I've tried Ely's test 1D4 and AF is amazing.

BTW, for such action (polo, soccer, etc.), I'd use a minimum of 1/1000 sec shutter speed to freeze the action. The 1D4 files are cleaner than the 7D, so ISO 800 - 1600 are very useable.

@romy it is mighty entertaining this camera. The level of control is phenomenal. Must spend more time playing with the settings as I wasn't having much luck focusing. Operator error and all. I can't relate "that" type of situation to "this" type of focusing. Hence the baby steps of shooting horses than birds. Birds are, the gold standard.

I hope to remember your sports advice as the next match is next year.

For clarification this is the first time to own a body of such caliber. But wowowee this is such a great piece of kit. No wonder people rave about the 1-series. Galing I am in awe.
