I joined the WBCP group on their bird expedition last Sunday afternoon at the Thunderbirds Resorts in Antipolo. There is a forested area behind their resort where I saw for the first time the Reddish Cuckoo-dove, and a beautiful male Jungle Fowl. Knowing that these Birdwatchers move a lot as they look for birds I brought my 300mm f2.8 with two TC, 2X and 1.4X mounted on it and a monopad. It weighed more than 10 pounds but considerably lighter than the 26 pounds that I carry when using the 800mm. The Jungle Fowl was in my estimate about a hundred yards out but I think I got a pretty decent picture of it. ISO 400, 1/200, f5.6 Reddish Cuckoo-dove ISO 800, 1/500, f8 Long-tailed Shrike ISO 2500, 1/100, f5.6 Red Jungle Fowl

I guess nothing beats what grows in the wild. That is the reason why free range chicken cost more because they are more flavorful. But it doesn't mean that the Jungle Fowl also taste better. I think its best to see it in their natural habitat and in the wild.

Ooh, Jungle Fowl!! That's on my hit list! Congrats on the nice picture!! Tonji and I saw that twice in before, but we don't have pictures. The first time we saw it in Caylabne, we thought it was just an ordinary domestic rooster and didn't take the picture. Ayy yi yi.

Nice set, Ely.... congrats on getting the grand ancestor of all Chicken Joys! Thank you Romy. I hope they do leave some for them to propagate. What a beautiful specimen of a Rooster. This should be the symbol of our chicken instead of the legendary Sarimanok. Heh heh heh.

The first time we saw it in Caylabne, we thought it was just an ordinary domestic rooster and didn't take the picture. Ayy yi yi. Thank you Edu, James, and Sylvia. The first time I went to Lubigan, Tarlac with Prop Jerry, someone also saw a a Jungle Fowl and thought it was a regular Rooster. He only reialize it when it ran away. This is where Neon's motto comes in handy, "Shoot first and ask questions later". In my case I was with members of the WBCP and they were all excited about the Jungle Fowl. It must have been over a hundred yards but I shot it as fast as I could and than asked them what the excitement was all about. Luckily one picture came out with good colors for ID purposes.

Very nice captures, Ely! You're so lucky to get the Red Junglefowl. How do you like your new lens? Thank you Bob. I heard the Jungle Fowl is almost as rare as a Sarimanok which is of course just a legend. It is beautiful bird, and I hope that I will have the same luck when I go back there with my long lens and hopefully a new body with some crop factor so I can maximize the length. The 300mm f2.8 is a gem. Again thanks to Romy for his recommendation. I am now on a new diet of fruits, vegetables and fish. No more steaks.

Great shots, Ely. I liked the second one the most. Thank you Ariel. The bird was screaming like mad. I don't know if its the strong wind that irk him or my taking his pictures. Heh heh heh.
