Three things pushed this amazing capture by the Butterfly Lady to the top of this week's harvest: (1) The subject is naturally colorful and the shaded light allowed good exposure of the underbelly. (2) Amazing to see sharp details on the active bird at 1/15 sec shutter speed. (3) It's mind-blowing to see that such a tiny bird can be captured full frame with a 300 mm. Great stalking and camera work, TeLyds.... big congrats!!! P. S. - I seem to detect a slight "cool cast" on the perch and on the bill, but even if shot in RAW, it's tough to set the correct WB on such a mixed lighting (shaded subject, sunlit background).

Congratulations, Ate Lydia! You got an F4 lens but you used f/11 aperture in a shadowy location, wow, that's really challenging and in fact you got an amazing shot. Way to go, 'te Lyds.

Thank you Ka Mastah! Tne comments make me blush. I am not worthy. This post is a lifer... not the OSB, it's the post. My settings are hula, hula. I honestly do not understand the mathematics of photography. As my idol Ka Tina was sharing yesterday, she just makes a first shot and then check, then adjust if need be, then shoot, shoot, shoot when it comes out ok on the LCD. This was handheld and I sigh, because this can easily be shot with a tripod. Thank you Ed, Ely, Edu and Alain. I am very encouraged. telyds

Thanks Toto. He, he, Neon... I tell you, if the bird perches like a butterfly and calls for a macro shot, I have hope. Tins, you congratulate yourself. You are the hula-hula queen and I am honored to be a disciple, even just for this one shot. telyds
