Since I've been missing a lot of opportunities at shooting under canopy birds and to try to improve on my hit against miss ratio, I'll try my hand using flash on birds. I've seen birds that were really impossible to shoot under natural light and it's really a missed opportunity, I'd like to lessen this disappointments and carry a light source with me. ;D This is my first try at it so comments and suggestions on techniques and post processing are very much welcome and appreciated. Got me a BS as well..wooohooo first for the season!! 5DMII + 600 mm f4 IS + 2x Kenko TC + 580EX II, f8, 1/25 sec, ISO 400, Tripod-Gimbal support.

I find the color of the BS pale or washed-out. Your flash might be a little strong. You can try to use the flash in manual mode with just enough strength as a fill light. I guess you can still adjust the contrast to darken the subject. Just my .02

Same here. And the catchlight of the eye too(a bit unnatural). I might be wrong.

Ok, thanks for the comments Guys!! So, majority says it is pale, I think it can be solved with some tweaking on the levels during PP. Let me see if I can do something about it.
My observation is, some of the feathers are a bit shinny at the edges especially at the belly and chest area, that I think would be a greater problem to remedy.

Amazing flash control on this one, Neon. The use of flash is still apparent though (unless the real intention is to show that a flash was used) due to the bright subject on a dark background. Perhaps you can drag the shutter to properly expose the background? Here's another try at it, CC&S are really appreciated 5DMII + 600 mm f4 IS + 2x Kenko TC + 580EX II, f4, 1/200 sec, ISO 200, Tripod-Gimbal support.

Thanks for the C&C guys! Learned some lessons from it. Now I got a bit of an upgrade with the installation of a Flash "X-Tender" (same as the better beamer but manufactured by Visual Echoes Inc.). Here's an ETS shot with the Flash "X-Tender". Still learning and trying to get the right settings. 5D2 + 300L f4 IS + 1.4x Sigma TC, + 580 EX II + X-tender, f5.6, 1/200 sec, ISO 200, Handheld.
