Last year, I spent my New Year's eve in Pansol with my Mom and sneaked out very early in the morning to Makiling. It was a delightful surprise to see Felix and Orly there already enjoying the hornbills feeding on the big fruiting tree at Trees Inn. I am sure the Saraca is in full bloom and the birdwing butterflies will be feeding as well.
I hope to see you guys there.

Drew,
Yup with Ate Lyds and Orly. Unfortunately no hornbills because for whatever reason, no fruits in the big tree. Last year Jan 1 we counted 15 hornbills all in the same tree and also black-chinned fruit doves and emerald doves.
We also guided an Indian couple.

Jan. 1 2008 was the second Orly, Felix and I birded in Makiling. We have decided to make it a tradition. I hope our schedules and circumstances will allow (baka mag-asawa na 2 binata It was very windy and showering most of the time. The falconets (about 6 or 7 of them) were the only birds that kept still, displaying their eating habits. Guys with the 300++ noses, those would have been nice captures, esp. one that was feeding on a dragonfly. It was a pleasure to meet Anand and wife, friends of Sudipto from ADB/India. The fellowship was warm and fun. We feasted on a half a kilo of Adelinas sweet ham and good pandesal. We went home 7pm.
