Just got back from Tarlac. Ij have oined Buboy Francisco (WBCP), Mark Wallbank (WBCP), Rhea Bautista (WBCP) and, a friend, Rommel De Leon, this morning. Our birdlist for the day? 60 species, including a plain bushhen, two watercocks and a spotted buttonquail -- plenty of guaiaberos at two or three arms length away. We have also been there last May 30 (without Mark). Our birdlist for that trip? 51 species, including 11 honeybuzards. All of the birds, except for the flying raptors, have been seen from roadside positions -- no need, if one elects, to get down his car. Where is the place? Tarlac Province Eco-Park in San Jose, Tarlac and its vicinity. If anyone is free this week, I am game for another visit (I have not brought my camera these last two trips). My vacation ends next week when the classes start at U.P. My number is 0920-923-3263.

Prop Jerry, last week i had a chance to talk to a guy at WOW Philippines, Central Luzon Tourism Showcase at intramuros from Provincial tourism office (forgot his name) of tarlac about that birding site, They are interested in promoting bird watching in their area since tourist spot in Tarlac are very limited. Wow talaga. That is very good news. I am free on Mondays; weekends, I bird with my wife and daughter although they many occasions want to go to Tarlac too. If anyone wants to go to the Tarlac birding sites, I can guide on Mondays. Buboy Francisco may also guide but I do not know the days he is free. My number is 0920-923-32-63. This should be a good opportunity for the native Itas of the area. Thanks for the interest. Cheers!

I hope to post the birdlist by tomorrow. There are several places around the Eco Park to do birding. One is the Eco Park itself. The other is the road from the Camp O'Donnell gate to the park where there are magma formations that look like gigantic moon rocks along the way. Another is the big bridge and river grassland area also along this road from Camp O'Donnell gate. Another is the 200 hectare farm of the Vice Mayor of the town. Another is the river just below the Eco Park mountains. There are several peaks with trails to climb within the Eco Park complex. Another is the road above a valley on the other side of the mountains opposite the Eco Park. My estimate is that this is perhaps the best place to do raptor watching during the return season, maybe even during the arrival season, as one can see from the veranda of the Eco Park office.
Attention Everyone: A trip is scheduled by Buboy Francisco for some birding in Tarlac this weekend, 25th of July, Saturday. We leave meet and leave at 4:00 a.m. at the 7-11/McDonald's area along EDSA corner Quezon Avenue this Saturday. I am bringing my car and I can accommodate two or three people. Buboy is also bringing his car and he can take maybe two or three more. Governor Vic Yap is going to join us in Tarlac. If you are interested, send me a message: my number is 0920-923-3263.

someone told me before that Tarlac is a King Cobra country. How true is this? If this is true, you guys should be watchful against these serpents
