Welcome to the forums, Sandy! Just joined in and looking forward to go birding with you in 3 weeks. Visiting the Philippines Feb. 22-March 17 with all our birding gears. Would be nice if you let us know more about you - like a name or where you are from :) Are you a Filipino ? Hi Tina, Sandy is an Oregon-based birder/photographer who's visiting here. She emailed me for some info on birding around Metro Manila and I advised her to register in the forums, so she can access more info. I'd presume Sandy is a Filipina, as she writes some Tagalog. :) Romy

Hi again Sandy, For birding at UP-Diliman, the resident authority is UP professor Jerry de V., you can PM or email him. birdphotoph.proboards107.com/index.cgi?action=viewprofile&user=propjerryWe don't post detailed location info on the boards, as we are being watched also by hunters/poachers. I'll email you a brochure/map for Candaba. You need a private vehicle to get there, as it's not serviced by public tranports. For areas near Roxas Blvd., there are quite many birds (and garbage too) during low tide at the coastal lagoons. You need to hook up with a local birder to go to these areas, as these aren't very safe if you're not familiar with the place. Romy

This is STweedty. Thanks for all the messages. Yes, I'm a filipina, (always be), from Portland, Oregon. I was born in Cagayan de oro but family moved to Davao. Came to US as a nurse (Chicago) in '77. Been birding for 25 years, thanks to my husband, who introduced me to it, now I'm hooked. Our travels revolve around birding. Been to Arizona, Alaska, Florida and more places just to see our feathered friends. This is will be our first serious birding in Manila. Be a treat to meet anyone of you or all of you from the forum. Thanks for having me. My real name is Sandra (Sandy) Ibanez Tweedt. Cheers.

Hi Lydia or Ate Lyds, or I might be older than you (shhhhhhhhhhhh). We love taking pics of butterflies too. And I suspect this is your specialty, right? Butterflies seem to be active when the sun is intense and we miss them on winter time. I remember there's a butterfly garden in Luneta, does it still exist? Any spot you can recommend? Hope to meet you and every sometime. Shall we suggest a photo seminar with Guru Romy? I'm still a novice in photography and I need his expertise! . Trying hard, pero there is hope. STWEEDTY

Welcome aboard, Sandy. And if you and your husband ever plan on birding in Southern California, let me know. My wife and I (we're both Pinoys) are birder/photographers based in Pasadena. We just came from a 5 day trip to South Texas and despite the rain and overcast skies, we managed to get 33 lifers (and photographed about half ) Bob & Cynthia Kaufman
