Aside from the 1080p video, what gets me super-excited with the 5D2 is the opportunity to shoot at ISO 6400 - 25600 and get useable files. The 5D2's sRAW1 files (3861 x 2574, 10.0 MP) appear to control noise and retain detail better than the current lowlight king, the D3 FF NEF (4256 x 2832 , 12.1 MP). 5d2 sRAW1 vs D3 NEF comparison (ISO 25600): forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1032&message=30236550Of course, when looking at full size 5D2 RAWs, noise is much worse at the pixel level than the D3's FF NEF. Likewise, the D3 has a much superior AF system, frame rate, build and fps. I can already foresee a myriad of applications, albeit only 10 MP on a FF body, plus an anemic AF and small buffer (13 sRAW1). The photo below was taken in near darkness, as clouds had covered much of the skies at sunset. The ability to shoot at a conservative ISO 6400 sRAW1 (this should easily match or better the 1D2 RAW at ISO 800) will perhaps add another 30 minutes shooting time for BIFs, given the 3 stops gain. 1D2 + 500 f4 IS, 500 mm, f/4, 1/500 sec, ISO 800, captured on 27-May-2008 at 16:59:21: Not sure if the new FF D3x has a small NEF (like sRAW1), but at the very least I expect a similar low light capability from the new Nikon body by using full-size NEFs, downressed/binned in Nikon's excellent raw converter. Technology marches on, and the frontiers of nature imaging are pushed even further.

As currently priced, I don't care for the D3x (as if I can afford even for the D3 ;D ). I'm excited for the 5DM2 too. But the only way I can enjoy it is through viewing the mastah's work. Do you have it na ba? Looks like it started shipping already. Congrats in advance Master Romy!

Market forces (and the current economic conditions) will make it so. The first batch of locally warrantied 5D2s that arrived in our islands (9 units only) were kits, and much as I want to shoot video now, I've to forego and wait for the body only shipment (1-2 weeks from now). I don't intend to shoot video using short lenses, and if ever I'll do it in the future, I'll prefer a short zoom brighter than the 24-105 f4 IS, like the 24-70 2.8.
